What did you name your pet? Some names are goofy or precious, and some may reflect an owner's tastes or interests. Yet some names are pretty timeless and appear quite commonly on the collars of our purring little friends.

If you're curious what other people name their pets, be sure to check out our cutest pets of 2011 slideshow.

Does your cat's name reflect where it came from? A recent poll by AP and petside.com suggests that most people get their pets as gifts or rescue them.

If you'd like to help a cat in need, consider adoption options with your local shelter, or by visiting Petfinder.com and the ASPCA website.

If you think your pet has a unique name, check out Banfield Pet Hospital's list of the top 25 cat names for 2011, accompanied by some of our favorite cat pictures from this year. Be sure to vote for your favorites!

We've used two of the most popular names for our cats. Our first cat was initally called Fluffy. We got Fluffy from my aunt, who grew up on a farm, and assured us Fluffy was a girl. Fluffy was a boy, so then we called him Fuzzy, which evolved into Fuzz, and then Buzz. Our second cat was Sam. Our third cat was Suzy. Our fourth and fifth cats were littermates: Charlie and Whisper. Our current cats are also littermates: Cally and Rusty. Cally and Rusty came to us as kittens from the humane society. In February, they will be 17 years old.

my black cat is "Pearl" - a cross between a black pearl and pearl bailey.
my first cat was named winky. My parents had a cat named Ginger who had kittens and gave two to a friend. Then Ginger died as a result of her spaying - awful - so they got one kitten back who was already named winky. then a few years later, Winky was hit by a car - she lived to a ripe old age of 17 but lost an eye in the car accident - is that irony? or fate? who knows!!??

Forgot current kitties: Smoke, Blaze, Cinder, and Patches. Found the first 2 at the shelter and the next two found us.

When I was young we had a cat that had a facial marking like Flower the skunk in Bambi, we just had to name her Flower.

A couple of my Himalayans in years past were Cassia Suzanne and her son, Zachary Alexis.

Current cats are Smokey, Onyx and Opie.
