Jon Stewart On Donald Trump Debate: 'Thank You Jesus!' (VIDEO)

Jon Stewart greeted the news that Donald Trump would be moderating a Republican presidential debate with these simple words: "thank you Jesus!"

Stewart told the audience on his Tuesday show that he had been despondent after Herman Cain dropped out of the presidential race, taking his vast stores of comic material with him. But just as Cain was exiting the stage, Trump --who has become a reliable comic foil for Stewart-- came barreling on with his debate announcement.

"When God closes a door, he opens a window!" Stewart said. "And sometimes, standing outside that window is a circus peanut wearing a badger."

He played clips of Trump's boisterous response to the many critics who have savaged his debate plans in the last few days. He took special delight at Trump's tirade against NBC's Chuck Todd over the matter of a phone call.

"He can't let go of the question of who called who first?!" Stewart said. "And he's going to moderate a debate!"

Mr. Trump: The one thing you really want, respect, you will never have so long as you treat others with the contempt that you do. Many of the "friends" that you have consider you to be nothing but a buffoon and a bully; they say that behind your back but speak nicely to your face. You back-stab people and can't even conduct a proper conversation because you constantly talk over everyone else, thereby missing their points and in turn making you look foolish. People are often amazed and flabbergasted at the things you utter. Is it any wonder people won't participate in your "debate"? No, not at all. If anyone watches the debate it will simply be to see what a spectacle you make of yourself. But, hey, that's the point, isn't it....self-promotion of a kook by a kook.

I can see it now, it will be so hilarious with just 2 in the debate, both babbling how wonderful and electable they are and Trump getting so disgusted as he thinks he is better, he will dismiss them both and say he is running instead as he is so much better than they are.
