Pat Robertson On Obama's Gay Rights Directive: God Will Punish The Nation (VIDEO)

Posted: 12/07/11 04:46 PM ET

Pat Robertson

Pat Robertson has joined the ranks of right-wing pundits who've condemned the Obama administration for its pledge to use U.S. foreign aid to promote lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights abroad.

One day after Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton gave impassioned speeches on the importance of LGBT rights, the media mogul condemned the Democratic party's actions on "The 700 Club," the Christian Broadcasting Network's flagship news program.

Robertson asked, "Isn't it appalling that the United States of America would try to enforce the acceptance of homosexuality on other nations, but at the same time, we would not force them to take care of religious minorities...what kind of a country have we got?" He then went on to note, "This country cannot continue to violate God's principles and to make a mockery of His laws and think we're gonna get away with it."

Very surprised to hear a so call man of God talk down on any person. You tell people to pray for each other, yet you refuse to pray for our President because he is black. That's. Why did God use a barrack which is spelled a different was? We really need to pray for you. These past couple of years you have had harsh words about people. God said love all as he loves us. What happen to your teaching. I still haven't heard you pray for your republicans (2 of them) who say they will not help the poor or blacks. Maybe you need to re-think being on TV. I am praying for you, second where is you story on the burning of the NC black churches, keeping black from serving God and coming together as those in Iowa. Is this a one way street you re turn to or are you mad with God.

Mr. Robertson did not state an opinion when he said, “"This country cannot continue to violate God's principles and to make a mockery of His laws and think we're gonna get away with it."

This concept is based on myriads of examples directly from the Scriptures. Evil has its own inherent punishments. We bring these punishments upon ourselves when we choose evil. To continue in evil is to continue in self affliction.

Romans 2:4 Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, tolerance and patience, not realizing that God's kindness leads you toward repentance?

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. ~ 2 Chronicles 7:14 The reciprocal is also true.

Evil has its own inherent punishments. Ah, but do not forget that evil was created by God and is in existence at his direction, not ours. You quoted Romans, so I will as well, in Chapter 9:

16 It does not, therefore, depend on human desire or effort, but on God’s mercy. 17 For Scripture says to Pharaoh: “I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.â€[g] 18 Therefore God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden.

Dear choo-chew,

According to Scripture, God did not “create†evil. It must be understood that God did not create “robots†either. He gave the Angels and Man a free will. Bad decisions were made which is what brought sin into His perfect creation. Yet God in His mercy found a way to rescue man and satisfy His perfect justice through Jesus Christ.

RE. Pharaoh:

Read Ex. 9, 16: The reason why the Pharaoh of Scriptures appeared on the stage of history is that he might be an example of the revelation of God’s power, the power which is able to effect the destruction of obstinate sinners.

The example of Pharaoh shows the terrible effect of self-hardening. God has thoughts of grace and mercy toward all men. He seriously wants the salvation of all men. He offers His gifts of mercy to all without exception, 1 Tim. 2, 4; Rom 11, 32; Ezek. 33, 11.

God sent His call to Pharaoh via His messengers. He pleaded with him and chastised him to lead him to the way of righteousness. But the proud king refused to heed each and every offer. And therefore God finally delivered him to his evil mind and intention; He withdrew His hand, His saving grace, from him. That was the judgment by which the heart of Pharaoh was hardened.

Yes, it's appalling that the US wants other countries to not kill/imprison people for their immutable characteristics...

If there was a God, surely he would have done something by now to stop Patty from speaking as his representative.

If God would punish the United States for anything, Pat, it would be for raping Native Americans of their land and enslaving another people to build on it.

Real sick of you folks blaming everything on us good gays.

God will not have to punish the country. We are doing a great job of punishing ourselves...We are reaping what we sowed each and every day.

Let's remove Mr. Robertson's Invisible Sky Fairy Church tax exemptions, since he wants to meddle in politics. How amazing it is that with the scientific knowledge we have amassed over all these years (despite the best efforts of various religions) people still believe in this utter nonsense. Even if there were a god, why would he be more angry about consensual, loving relationships between adults than, say, genocide? Why would a god send AIDS as a punishment but not "Nazi Concentraion Camp Guard virus"? The answer seems to be that the right-wing fundamentalist, self-proclaimed Christians are obsessesed with gay sex. I wonder why that is?

Doesn't it require a lot of energy to spew forth so much venom and hatred all of the time? It looks like it's wearing on him. He looks more Gollum-esque than ever.

What's the difference between him and Osama bin Laden? They both claim God is on their side and they are right.

I am so tired of religious zealots using God to justify their resistance to live styles that don't fit their narrow idea of what is acceptable. These people use religion selectively - quoting it or twisting it when it serves their purpose - ignoring it when it doesn't.

The world has been fighting over religious beliefs since the beginning of time and I guess we are destined to continue that way.

I think the mysterious man in the sky will punish America for the following:

Not helping the poor
Keeping sick people from health care
Destroying His environment
Hate speech
modern day "religion"
Hatred towards un-documented workers
Hatred and bigotry towards those less fortunate, and those that are not white.
Etc, etc, etc.
