Mary J. Blige has always been honest about her struggles with drug abuse, depression and experiences in abusive relationships. The singer has undoubtedly triumphed over multiple hardships and has developed a reputation as a survivor, along with her legendary status in the music industry.
During an interview on CNN's "Piers Morgan Tonight," the queen of hip-hop soul opened up about her alcohol abuse and her husband's role in helping her overcome her addiction.
"I was done, I was dying, it was over. I was gonna die, it didn't matter. But I didn't wanna die," she told Piers Morgan. "So when it finally happened, I was like 'Wait a minute, this is not what I want.' But subliminally, I was drinking myself to death."
Blige credits her husband, Kendu Isaacs, for changing her life, by offering her love and support.
"I've never had anybody approach me with that kind of love before," she said. "And that's what I needed, and that's what triggered in me the love that I have for myself today."
Last month, the singer released her new album "My Life II...The Journey Continues," an ode to her 1994 triple platinum album "My Life."
