Stephen Colbert Gives GOP Debate 'Details,' Trash Talks Trump (VIDEO)

WATCH: Colbert Gives Details On His GOP Debate

On Tuesday's episode of "The Colbert Report," Stephen Colbert announced that he planned on hosting "Stephen Colbert's South Carolina Serious, Classy Republican Debate," to be broadcast on Animal Planet. On Wednesday, Colbert again repeated his boast that his debate would put Donald Trump's to shame, since three candidates have already declined the invitation to appear at Trump's event.

"It's happening, we're doing it, we have set the date in stone: Sometime in January," said Colbert. "It's going to be on Animal Planet, they haven't retunred my calls. They're busy, it's Wallaby Week. The wallaby, of course, the greatest marsupial to hop the face of Australia. Sorry, kangaroos, you're yesterday's news," echoing Trump's penchant for flamboyant superlatives.

Colbert promised to make the debate a Vegas-style affair, including limos, chandeliers for each podium and an invitation to former GOP nominee Sen. John McCain.

So, will this really happen? A representative for Comedy Central told The Huffington Post that any official news about the debate will be announced through Colbert's show. Meanwhile, according to South Carolina's The State, Colbert wanted to co-host a debate at Myrtle Beach, but Fox News has an exclusive deal to host a Myrtle Beach debate.
