J.C. Penney 1987 Denim Commercial Is Totally Rad, Ridiculous (VIDEO, POLL)

They had us at "white-wash."

This J.C. Penney video is the latest viral fashion video making the rounds, as enthusiastically nostalgic editors like ourselves embrace the cheesiness that was 1980s denim.

See Julie, in her "fast-moving denim outfit" featuring a stone wash jacket and scrunchies "of every imaginable color!" See Joe, with an unbuttoned shirt flapping in the wind and his super hip "white-wash Levi's." See Tracy in her "big, baggy blue bib overalls" (yes, that's supposed to be an appealing description)!

In short, see all of 1987's finest denim and thank the fashion gods that we emerged from the 1980s intact. Happy Friday, people!

Quick Poll

Is this J.C. Penney commercial the best thing you've seen all day?

Loved the 80's but I don't remember the fashion being that bad. That third outfit is so Bananarama!

Those blue overals were horrid.

Everything about the 80s was awful: food, fashion, cars, style, music (except 1985-1986) clothes, hair and make-up.

All one needed in the 80's was a nose full of coke and designer jeans :-)

The best thing to come out of the 1980's was "Miami Vice". And can you say "shoulder pads"???

This is fashion? I notice these are clothes that were worn by gays and homeless people. How does these people actually get jobs at a work place? I would never caught dead with these trashy clothes on even at that time. The people who looked like that generally had the worst grade and got pregnant and dropped out of school. Try to look the fashion of a typical of ivy league school..You'll be much more successful in life..Get better grades, perfect SAT scores, and learn your ways to be productive in life.

None sense. I have worked with many millionaires and many do not have any fashion sense. They are very frugal and simple people who worked hard, own businesses, and save every dollar to get to where they are with the exception of entertainment industry. People who are dressy are usually their workers/slaves. Talk to the people who worked in banking industry and ask what their VIP looked like. They will tell you the same.

Do you mean the fashion such as the OWS crowd ? Oh yeah, they are very successful.

We are too busy working than participating OWS. No not those crowd. Many of those people live paycheck by paycheck and probably spend every dollar buying the latest Ed Hardys shirts and pants. I'll be the smart one..Sell them to make their money so I'll be rich.

I hear you. Good luck. You will make it.

Just wait, some designer will be trotting those styles out on the catwalk sometime soon.

I was working and playing in the 80s. I never saw ANYone in clothes anything like these, not anywhere. I don't remember any of these looks in catalogs either and I've always been a huge Penny's fan and always had their catalogs.

Now the 70s is another story.

1. If there's no choice, then there's no vote.

2. It's very easy to mock and make fun of the fashions of the past but just wait to see what will happen to fashions that are enjoyed today in the future....
