VIDEO: Cheryl Hepner, Angry Grandma, Shoots Son-In-Law Who Records Attack On iPhone

Cheryl Hepner Angry Grandma

First Posted: 12/09/11 02:01 PM ET Updated: 12/09/11 10:13 PM ET

A man anticipating an angry confrontation with his estranged mother-in-law hit record on his iPhone, but captured more than a verbal dispute when the woman pulled out a gun and fired three times, striking him twice.

Salvatore Miglino's iPhone captured the entire incident, helping police put 66-year-old Tamarac resident Cheryl Hepner behind bars for attempted premeditated murder.

Miglino arrived at the home of his wife's parents Wednesday just after 5 p.m. to pick up his three-year-old son per a court-ordered custody schedule, said Broward Sheriff's Office spokesperson Dani Moschella. Expecting Hepner to be combative as she met him in the yard with the child's pillow and bag, he hit record on his phone before stepping out of the car.

The phone instead captured Hepner telling Miglino that his father-in-law wished to speak with him inside. When Miglino declined to enter the house, Moschella said, Hepner pulled a gun from behind her grandson's pillow and fired three shots at her son-in-law, hitting him twice in the ribcage and shoulder.

Wounded, Miglino fell on top of Hepner in the yard, screaming, "I can't believe you did that! What are you, crazy? I can't believe you shot me!"

"Get the **** off me!" Hepner screamed, calling her son-in-law at least one choice name before he was transported to Broward General Hospital. Police say he was treated and released.

In a classic he-said, she-said, Hepner told investigators that the incident began when Miglino tried to shoot her, but she knocked the gun from his hand and shot him in self-defense.

"Detective weren't able to hear the recording on the phone until Thursday because the phone needed to be charged," Moschella said. "Once it was charged, and they were able to review it, she was arrested."

Hepner, who police say had no prior criminal record, was charged with attempted murder in the first degree.

Its so very weird, when the aggressor finally gets a dose of his own medicine, the public screams out for him. How ironic, but I would say a twist a fate. Violence reaps violence and believe me this guy probably has sown a ton of seeds.

Romans 13:13 Living as we do in broad daylight, let us conduct ourselves becomingly, not indulging in revelry and drunkenness, nor in lust and debauchery, nor in quarrelling and jealousy.

I'm not a grandma but, I am a mother, and to say the least I don't have the best relationship with the "dead-beat" that my younger two children call "dad". I can't say I have never been angry enough to say things about wishing he were dead, however, I COULD NEVER ACTUALLY KILL OR EVEN THINK ABOUT ATTEMPTING TO KILL HIM! I know that my mom WOULD NEVER EVER EVEN CONSIDER PHYSICALLY ASSAULTING OR ATTEMPTING TO KILL HIM EITHER! This woman is CRAZY and needs LOCKED UP! I personally don't think that she would benefit from prison. At her age she needs to go somewhere she can participate in regular therapy & be put on some kind of medication regiment. Can anyone out there say MAXIMUM SECURITY PSYCHIATRIC FACILITY?????

Sort of explains why my ex-girlfriend can never have a decent relationship with a new man. She still fights like this (well no shooting) with her ex husband about their son. Love turns to hate and sometimes worse... They can't let it go and be civil for the sake of the kids. I couldn't be with her, to hang around and watch as their twisted love/hate perpetuated and negatively affected their kids.

And this is why you always ask for consent before recording.

good thing he got it on video because she pulled a susan smith and they might have believed her,the way she lied so good.he would have been the aggressor.

That woman deserves a couple of decades in the dungeon she'll no doubt be sentenced to. Doing that and then trying to frame him with that story? Unthinkably evil.

Her family will be financially devastated by any defense that gets her out before 80 and the custody issues, if unresolved, will likely now be in the father's favor. So I guess there's a bit of justice there.

No, no, I'm fairly efficient in the use of emoticons to indicate joking or humor. Watch the video again, and ask yourself who is pictured so that you can identify them. The exact same video could have just been some dude shooting a gun into the air and screaming, "YOU SHOT ME!" All we heard was voices and in fact, the clear voice we hear is the Grandma saying, "Get off me!"

I hope she enjoys at least 10 years in prison for her little hate escapade!

He was smart he filmed it, good for him, but sad that without the video, he would have gone to the hospital, then jail, then lose his kids based on whatever the mother law felt like saying. Thats how divorce works.

Please at least cover up her eyes. She's giving me the "evil eye" and it's freaking me out.
