Ernie And Cindy Win 'The Amazing Race' 2011 Season 19 (VIDEO)

The Amazing Race

NEW YORK — "The Amazing Race" took its final three teams on a frantic scramble through Atlanta during Sunday's conclusion of the CBS competition show.

In the end, it was Ernie Halvorsen and his fiancee Cindy Chiang, both from Chicago, who crossed the finish line at Atlanta's historic Swan House to win the $1 million prize.

In second place were Californians Jeremy Cline and Sandy Draghi. In third place were former NFL player Marcus Pollard and his wife Amani, from Pine Mountain, Ga.

During this last leg of the round-the-world race, the couples were required to land a jetliner in a flight simulator, find "Gone With the Wind" author Margaret Mitchell's home, and plot their 40,000-mile odyssey on a giant world map erected high above the parking lot at Turner Field.

But interviewed after the broadcast, the winners said their most unnerving moment was the basic task of getting a cab at Atlanta's airport.

"Nobody wanted to take us," Ernie said. "That was the most stressful thing as we saw the other teams departing."

Finally a driver volunteered, "and we give him all the rest of our money as a tip," said Cindy.

The episode's most comic scene: when Jeremy and Sandy went in search of "the Dump," the name for Mitchell's famous residence, but instead were delivered by their driver to a huge department store called The Dump, where they wasted precious time prowling its aisles in vain to find the clue that wasn't there.

"This is so nerve-racking," said Draghi when they were back on the road. "I have to get on Prilosec when I get home."

after the snow boarders got eliminated, I wanted Armani and Marcus to win because they did not get snarky with each other or complain, and never gave up

The best part of this year's race is that the proslytizing snowboarder dudes didn't win.

They were so sure "God is with us all the way". . . while never pondering why "God" wasn't with any of the other contestants.

Jeez....what a conundrum.

My thought exactly!

I liked all of the teams this year since there was no clear villain. Happy that Ernie and Cindy won. Was rooting for Marcus and his wife but at the end I got tired of his football comparisons. Enough already... let it go Marcus.

I definitely differ from most of those commenting. I actually liked Cindy & Ernie. Thought they seemed nice and tried really hard. The snowboarders were likable, but just coming in first all those times didnt indicate to me they should have won...remember, at least two of those first places finishes were because the other teams in front of them screwed up. On another they were just in better shape than C&E and barely outran them. So, it is what it is. Congrats to C&E

Never really had a favorite team from the beginning of the season. I'm just happy that football mouth and the whinny blonde didn't win.

I think she may need to spend some of that money on a therapy session or two given that she is still trying to live up to her parents expectations of perfection.

I thought CHEATERS never win, I guess, I was wrong. Ernie and Cindy lost their train passes in Germany, and rode the train anyway without being penalized! They should have been put off at the first stop, or Phil should have given them a 30 minute penalty. What's up with that?
11:40 AM on 12/12/2011
They paid for the tickets. They didn't get penalized because they were never asked for tickets by a conductor.
04:16 PM on 12/12/2011
Yes they were, if you remember the ticket lady was standing in the doorway, and ask them for their tickets, and Cindy said, "she lost them." REALLY?????

They purchased the tickets but werent asked for them. Would be the same if another team lost their tickets AFTER the train ride.

I didn't care for Cindy. I was rooting for Marcus and Amani. I really like their chemistry and respect for each other. A real classy couple.

Me too. Out of everyone, Cindy was my least favorite to win.

On the plus side, with 1/2 a million dollars, Eddie doesn't have to pretend to be straight anymore.

LOL I think so too. He would make a great gay.

Forgot to take your medication today? There's no Eddie on the show.

Oops... sorry about that. When I'm outing someone against their will, I tend to get their names mixed up. Of course Eddie could be his porn name, right?

Fantastic race, this one went down to the wire - anyone could have won. This show has a simple but elegant formula - fantastic panoramic scenes, a bit of culture, and traveling around the world.

Will be interesting to see what foundation Ernie and Cindy start, happy they won.
08:07 AM on 12/12/2011
I guess it's a good thing that they won...Cindy would have whined and cried for a year if they had not won.

Watched the whole season and disappointed in the end. Didn't care for Cindy from the beginning.
I believe the skateboards guys were robbed, the cab drivers did them in, so unfair.
09:30 AM on 12/12/2011
They were a great team no doubt. But they won so many first place prizes along the way, including money, trips and Mustangs, that it is hard to feel sorry for them.

They'll be on the next favorites season, I am sure. I was sad when they were voted off but you're right, they still won a ton of prizes.

I am ecstatic that Cindy & Ernie won! Yay!! I didn't have the slightest problem with Cindy's high self esteem "problem". It's ironic that in an extremely narcissistic society such as this, many people has problem with Cindy's self-confidence. Black? Be proud! Gay? Have a parade! Stereotypical smart Asian and proud? Shame on you! On a different note, the snowboarders' losing was strangely satisfying to me. They kept thanking God for this and Jesus for that yet they were booted from cloud 9 in a most astonishing twist of fate!
