Brian Urlacher: Tim Tebow Is 'A Good Running Back'

Brian Urlacher Tim Tebow

Huffington Post   First Posted: 12/12/11 01:27 PM ET Updated: 12/12/11 01:38 PM ET

Even after having his team lose to the Denver Broncos on Sunday, all-pro linebacker Brian Urlacher still doesn't quite buy into the Tim Tebow hype, as indicated by this backhanded compliment he delivered to reporters after the game.

"He's a good running back," Urlacher said of Tebow, referring to the Denver quarterback's strength at running with the football, but also likely more so his weakness at throwing it.

Tebow responded to Urlacher's comments the best way he could by saying, "Coming from a really good player, that means a lot."

Urlacher wasn't the only Bear to get down on Tebow. Julius Peppers also chimed in after the game and told the Chicago Tribune, "We got to finish better. That's pretty much it. It wasn't anything special [Tebow] did."

Even if the Bears defense isn't ready to give Tebow his due, seemingly everyone else is. On Monday, CNN ran a story asking, "Is God on Tebow's side?" Not to be outdone, last night, Bob Costas suggested on Football Night In America that Tebow and the Broncos were among the most uplifting stories in sports.

Regardless of your thoughts of Tebow, as a result of the win on Sunday, the Broncos are now 8-5 and alone atop the standings in the AFC West. So don't expect the media to stop talking about him anytime soon.

Easily the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. I'm pretty sure it can be in MVP talks if they appear only in the fourth quarter every week and somebody comes out with a win. i can inform you all to access http://www.tebowformvp.com/ thanx.

I see that a Bear's player agrees with this Viking fan.

Everyone should be talking about how Prater won the game not Tebow. A 59 yard FG with the game on the line. A 51 yard FG in OT. Less then a 5% chance of making them both.

Everyone should give credit to the Broncos team. They found a way to win as a team.

Well maybe we should have the field goal kicker just try one from the 20 yard line on the first possession? Duh...oh yes I guess the quarter back has to get him closer some how!

Chicago could use a good running back themselves.. One that knows how to fall down in bounds instead of trying to pad his stats by 2 extra yards and costing his team a win.

It's all about the W. That leaves Urlacher and Peppers nothing to do but kick rocks.

he's winning, for now... but eventually they all start to lose. Then we'll see what he's really made of, that will be the real test

First of all I am not a Tim hater. But we do have to be honest that no one really believes that a single person can go to the Superbowl and win it by waiting to the forth quarter with minutes left to play and win it? Come on man! I guess Tim and God together made the Bears' running back make two stupid mistakes so he could win. Maybe just maybe things sometimes fall right in place for you. There have been many many great player who also believe in God and not win the Bowl. However, for you Tim lovers and believers you have to be happy for the last seven results but i do expect to hear all kinds of excuses when it all comes crashing down and it will be a let a down no matter how it happens. You see the more you want something and not get it the more the disappointment:( I hope you believers do not think that Mr. Tim will win every game and every Superbowl til he retires, but i bet you do anyway:) Good Luck! I mean it:)

The question still remain Mr. Urlacher, who won the game....they did.
09:49 AM on 12/14/2011
Doesn't change the fact that Tebow should be a running back.

Tim Tebow is a great all round athlete, who happen to play Quarterback that all.
07:19 PM on 12/14/2011
The win required a bone headed play by not going out of bounds that would have locked down the win. A fumble that cost the Bears the win and a 59 yard field goal for the tie. Any one of those things doesn't happen the whole Tebow narrative changes. Good luck depending on that every week.

Urlacher will have plenty of time to think up witty quips when he's sitting at home watching the first round of the playoffs.

Sour grapes Urlacher, and especially low class after Tebow was so complementary about you in the media.
