Rooney Mara's 'Dragon Tattoo' Transformation... On Hollywood's Top Starlets (PHOTOS)

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 12/13/11 01:12 PM ET   Updated: 12/13/11 01:14 PM ET

There's been much ado about the drastic transformation Rooney Mara's undergone to play Lisbeth Salander, the punky, tattooed and raven-haired lead of "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo."

Mara, formerly of the angelic face and wavy brown hair, has been popping up on magazine covers and red carpets with a sleek black bowl cut, while her alter ego appears on the movie posters with piercings all over her face.

Truthfully, Mara can pull it off -- she's got the delicate features and heart-shaped face to wear the hard-metal accouterments well. But what about the rest of Hollywood's leading ladies? Could Gwyneth Paltrow or, say, Reese Witherspoon pull off the dyed hair, the ink and the metal?

We used our (incredibly amateur) Photoshop skills to find out. Behold: the Lisbeth Salander Transformation.

None of these actresses could ever play the dark, complicated Lisbeth Salander (the thought of Reese is particularly laughable). The only exception is Kate Winslet - she MIGHT be able to do it.

To me, Noomi Rapace remains the only Lisbeth Salander.

I'd skip the Fincher film if I were you.

That would be like cheating on your girlfriend if you went to see it.
