Scarlett Johansson's Divorce: Grandma Reacts To Rumors

Scarlett Johansson dished to David Letterman Monday about her grandmother's reaction to rumors about her divorce from Ryan Reynolds.

Reports alleged that Johansson ended the marriage because Reynolds was pressuring her to have children, which "couldn't be further from the truth," she said.

"She called me on my phone and was like, 'That bastard, you should never have children for anybody baby, you take your time. You got your career on the line,'" Johansson said.

Johansson and Ryan Reynolds split in 2010 after two years of marriage.

The actress recently told Cosmopolitan magazine that their hectic work schedules prompted the split.

"Relationships are complicated.. and being married is a living, breathing process. I think I was not fully aware of the peaks and the valleys. I wasn't prepared to hunker down and do the work," she said in the magazine's January issue. "Both of us were extremely busy. We spent so much time apart. It's very difficult. It's bad."

Am I the only one who thought the lovely and talented Ms. Johannson looked terrible in this appearance? Perhaps it was my TV screen, but she looked quite a bit heavier than she did in "Match Point." That red lipstick was way over the top, and that hairdo straight out of the "Jetsons." If the idea was to show just how unattractive an attractive woman can look, it worked.

Grandma would have said the same thing if Scarlett wanted children and Ryan didn't. She is just pro Scarlett and anytime a relationship don't work out it is easier to chalk the failure up as the guys fault.

I know the REAL reason for the split. They simply were not good-looking enough for each other. Thankfully, my wife and I worked through this devastating marital issue.

She had been in the Broadway play that she won a Tony for, doing 8 performances a week for months, and when it finished she was in that mindset--which is to say, bored with real life, ie being married. Understandable, really.

Didn't I just see on another HP post that marriages were down - and then I hear this story and the one with the marriages of last year of stars including Kelsey and LeAnn - I am thinking the marriage that are happening are the ones that shouldn't be such as Hollywood's - makes me want to go back to politics where everything is so set in stone - not!

From a realistic viewpoint, Letterman's fans would be disappointed if he just glad-handed Scarlett and skipped over the more unpleasant aspects of her life during the past year. Her explanation sounds well considered and rehearsed, so both sides of the giant publicity monster achieved what they wanted out of this TV appearance.
