Richard Watrous, 87, remembers pulling out of the driveway in 1931 and waving to his 4-year-old sister, Doris. He didn't think he would have wait eight decades to see her again, WMTW reports.
After their mother died suddenly, the brother and sister were sent to live in separate homes. The two searched for one another through the years, but it wasn't until last summer that Doris Petre finally found her brother while searching online. She uncovered that her long-lost sibling lived just a short ride from her Maine home.
The two got together for first time in 80 years last weekend.
"I just want to get to talking to him, mend all those years for whatever years we still have left," Petre told the news outlet.
