Tim Tebow Makes Sports Illustrated Cover For Second Time In Four Weeks (PHOTOS)

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 12/14/11 05:04 PM ET   Updated: 12/14/11 05:04 PM ET

At a newsstand near you, it's Tebowmania. Again.

For the second time in four weeks, the Denver Broncos' polarizing quarterback made the cover of Sports Illustrated. According to the magazine's website, it's the eighth time the fourth quarter marvel has made the SI cover (although it's hard to tell why he is credited with this one).

Obviously, he has ways to go to reach Michael Jordan's record of 49 covers, but twice in four weeks is quite remarkable. Even if the Broncos' winning streak is snapped this coming weekend by Tom Brady's New England Patriots, the Tebow craze does not seem to be abating. After all, Denver's last defeat hardly dimmed the spotlight, partly due to the fact that Lions linebacker Stephen Tulloch mocked the former Gators quarterback by "Tebowing" after a sack.

Since then, Tebowing has taken the world by storm. Earlier this week, it was even officially recognized as a word.

When skiing starletLindsey Vonn was caught "Tebowing" following a win at the World Cup Super-G last week, conversation shifted from his on-field pursuits to his off-the-field relationships. In Denver, speculation of Tebow possibly dating Vonn amped up after she struck his pose. However, Vonn later shot down the rumors and said that she merely admires what he is doing.

When he loses a game will it be because he didn't pray hard enough and was he forsaken? When he exceeds the abilities of Johnny Unitas, Dan Marino, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers give me a call then.

Just create a magazine devoted exclusively to all things Tebow. ESPN is in danger of doing that with their entire network.

With the coverage he's getting, you'd think he was about to win his third SuperBowl to cap off his third consecutive undefeated season.

Amazing the fuss being generated over the fact that a guy is doing what he was hired to do.

His "Tebowing" has been around as long as life itself. Heck, they even have a stone statue of a man doing it, I belive it's called "The Thinker", it's been around for eons. The "teams" he has beaten are cute and nice, and not ONE of them will make the playoffs. His stats are the worse by any QB overall in the history of the game over the # of games he has played. He stinks. And if a black man, would be ignored or spoke of in nothing but negative ways. The Bronco's in the playoffs, one and done. Out of the playoffs,,,,,expected. Just wait till teams get a year of him on film, then we will actually see if he is worth a nickle. All this "attention" over some football player getting on his knees,,,,,,,I believe in God to no end, but even He thinks it's rediculous. In fact, I'm so close to God I don't need to hit my knees over every accomplisment in life I have. He KNOWS how I feel without the camera's and "fans" it seems Tebow NEEDS and CRAVES.

His stats are about where they should be considering the number of starts he's made. The one stat that stands out is his record 8-3 in his first 11 starts...same as Brady. Here are the records of a few Hall of Famers at the beginning of their careers...

Bradshaw - 8-13

Griese, Bob - 8-14-1

Tarnkenton - 4-19-1

Kelly - 10-18

Aikman - 7-19

Young - 3-16

All of these players obviously struggled early on and LOST more often than not. Tebow has won....Why are you making this about race? The NFL has many black players and nobody mentions a thing about it...yet here you are bringing it up in regards to Tebow.

Strange....

The majority of Denver's opponents have been held to low scoring by a good defense. If I were a member of that hard-working group I'd be rather upset about all the attention paid to a quarterback who has a very easy job in comparison to many other QBs in the league. I'd also be pretty annoyed if I were Matt Prater, the kicker responsible for most of "Tebow's" wins.

They are winning now, and they werent before, so they should be upset? Prater is annoyed? You seem to be in touch with what is really going on. Kyle Orton fan club?

I wouldn't know Kyle Orton if he walked into my house. And I don't even know if he is sitting on Denver's bench or with another team now. I don't know because he didn't get the kind of publicity that's heaped on Tebow. You just made my point for me.

Steelers vs Broncos. I want to see Tebow and Polamalu play against each other.
Polamalu has "sign of the cross" turrets syndrome, blessing himself every couple of seconds and Tebow praising the lord every couple of seconds.
That's we will find out who Jesus likes best.
They can't actually believe Jesus watches the game and does stuff to help them, do they?

As a diehard football fan, this Tebow "phenomenon" is distracting and undeserved. Have you seen this QB's stats?? The Broncos have a good coach who understands how to make a system work around a QB with limited talent and the team has a great defense. If those want to celebrate Tebow for his good guy image and faith, go ahead but don't make him to be a much better QB than he actually is - it waters down the game.

I like watching Tebow play because its as close as I`ll get to watching old school football, besides Army-Navy and that doesnt even cut it anymore. Fox does deserve a load of credit, so does the defence. But the defence and the rest of the team credit Tebow with the win. The kid possesses leadership and determination and I see him becoming a great coach one day. Maybe not head coach but...

I think Tebow's end zone actions of knelling down and thanking god should be restricted by the NFL. Hell, you can't do a dance in the end zone after a touchdown, but you can make a religious display??? He shoud been fined and warned that this kind of demonstration is unacceptable. Talk about a double standard. Tebow is getting away with breaking the rules. He's a poster boy.
06:50 PM on 12/15/2011
Its not breaking the rules you're allowed to celebrate as long as its not excessive. You can't use props, throw the ball, or fall to the ground. A small prayer doesn't do any of these things.

Learn the rules before you comment, you'll make smarter statements more relevant statements in the future.

One last thing tebow is not the only religious player in the NFL. Troy Polamalu, was voted the most religious player in the NFL. He constantly prays on the field and never recieves any flack for it from people like you. whats up with that?

Because most people don't even know he does it. He's very private about his faith. He was in Pittsburgh for years before most fans had any idea he was religious.

I think Tebow should be allowed to do it, but the NFL told Jared Allen that he can't take a knee during his "hog tie" sack celebration. I dont really care what either player does, but IMO the NFL should be consistant as a matter of fairness.

If Gronk can bury the ball three feet down in the turf with every spike, and Rodgers can flash his belt, Tebow can take a knee.
06:07 PM on 12/15/2011
I'm 48 yo, and have never in my life seen so much attention and praise heaped on such a marginal player in my life. If any other player in the NFL played the way Tebow does and stunk up the joint for 3.5 qtrs, and happened to pull it out at the end largely due to his defense and kicker, they'd be ripped from coast to coast, not put on the cover of SI. This is ridiculous. Don't tell me about the win streak, this crap with Tebow started long before he started for the Broncos. As a matter of fact, the Broncos were pushed into starting him. Real football fans understand when you judge a teams success, you look at all the factors surrounding those wins, like the fact the Broncos have faced some really bad teams, or severely weakened teams during this win streak. The only legitimate team they faced, the Lions, wiped the mat with them, but that matters not. Of course it doesn't, the one team Tebow actually had to play QB to win a game against a decent, not good, defense, he failed miserably. So what is it about miracle Timmy that demands the praise and coverage he gets. It can't be about football, because when you look at the wins, in OT or by field goals, over bad football teams, and with Tebow not even at 50% completion, what is it?
07:16 PM on 12/15/2011
I disagree. It's his second year in the NFL and he has shown clutch, potential, and the ability to help his team win when they need him the most. Yes he has gotten lucky on occasion. Its not every day your kicker boots one for 59 yards (we can probably also thank the thin colorado air). He has also come out with clutch plays during critical moments. Who can forget his 20+ yard td run in the final minute of the Jets game. Since week 7, the week he started playing he has more yards in the 4th quarter than any other QB. You can't teach clutch and he's got it.

His opponents although not terrifying have for the most part been decent. The jets and bears are known for there d. Miami was on a streak when they played them, they figured out there QB situation with mat moore, and the Raiders are a decent team, certainly not bottom feeders. Besides that if you were an NFL fan you would know that winning 6 games in a row is impressive for any team especially one that got off to such a slow start.

Finally praise is heaped on him because he is both a winner, and underdog. Part of his mystique is that a ton of football analysts predicted complete and utter failure for him in the NFL, and so far he is, along with the broncos, proving them wrong one game at a time.
07:43 PM on 12/15/2011
"Miami was on a streak when they played them"

Yeah, a losing streak. Miami was 0-5 when Denver beat them. The following week, Denver lost 45-10 to a 5-2 Lions. Of the 7 wins so far only 3 have been against teams with winning records. Two of those were handed (Oakland and Bears) to the Broncos.

The OP is right. The Tebow hype is ridiculous.

Well, if the Patriots do to the Bronco's what I think they might, does that mean that God loves Tom Brady more? And will it cause Timmy a moral crisis? Stay tuned.

Who's hidtory are you refering to? I sure isn't mine. He should not be breaking the rules after a touchdown in the end zone. For him to disrespect the rules isn't very christian of him. I don't hate Tebow, just his shoving his beliefs down fans throats.

I do not object to the man's zeel for his religious beliefs, just the way he is shoving it down fans throats. It's football, sports. If I want to watch a religion show, I'll do it sunday morning. I don't want to see it during a football game. Do you think he'd be aloud to thank Satan on international TV? I think not, so why is he permitted to? His actions deserve disipline from the NFL
