Between holiday parties and mall visits, it can be difficult to eat healthy all the time. Why not make a smoothie to take on the go, right? Especially one packed with enzymes, antioxidants, potassium and iron.
EcoRico's Giselle Achecar shows us how to make a healthy smoothie. The Tropical Tango Toxin Buster is loaded with mango, papaya and pineapple. The smoothie also includes almond milk, fresh coconut juice and yogurt.
High in iron, mangoes are great for pregnant women and people with anemia. One cup of sliced mangoes contains 76 percent of the RDA of vitamin C, which protects cells from free radical damage and reduces the risk of cancer. That same cup supplies 25 percent of the RDA of vitamin A for good eyesight. The mango’s digestive enzymes help break down proteins and aid digestion.
Papayas are an excellent source of vitamin C as well as a good source of vitamins A and E. The fruit contains papain, an enzyme that helps digest proteins and dissolve dead skin, imparting a fresh glow to the face.
Extremely high in manganese, vitamins C, B1 and B6, pineapples contain the enzyme bromelain, which helps in the digestion of protein and can prevent blood clot formation. Just one cup of fresh pineapple supplies 128 percent of the RDA of manganese, an essential trace mineral necessary for proper digestion and the metabolization of proteins.
