Kim Wayans: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Game

Kim Wayans: 'It's A Smart Move For Women To Learn The Game'

In our weekly "Love Of The Game" series, HuffPost BlackVoices talks sports with a person of note. This week we caught up with comedienne-actress Kim Wayans, who said women should try and watch sports with their mates.

My husband's a football fanatic, so I had to get with that program or else we would be in divorce court right about now. When somebody is so passionate and enthusiastic about something, you have two choices: You could either be the wife with her lip poked out and her arms crossed around her chest with an attitude all day; or you can get a bag of chips and get the pizza out and enjoy the game. And so that's what I've chosen to do, and we have a lot of fun watching the games ... I think it's important, especially if it's something that consumes a lot of your time, so this way your girlfriend doesn't start to feel left out, like you got another girlfriend -- football. But the flip-side of that is, that my husband is so open to doing what I want him to do. If I want to take him to a 'girly' thing, like a Barbara Streisand concert, a musical or something like that, he goes. And he goes happily, because he knows that I'm his football buddy, and I don't give him grief. I watch the game and enjoy it with him, so then he in turn goes and enjoys things with me. So it's a smart move for women to learn the game and enjoy it with their mates.
