Russell Brand is heading to FX, and no, he isn't entering the reality TV foray with wife Katy Perry. Instead, he's signed on for a new untitled half-hour late night series, reports Variety. FX ordered six episodes of the series, which will make its debut in Spring 2012.

The late night show will shoot in front of a live audience, and according to FX, it will feature "Brand's unfiltered take on current events, politics and pop culture." While Brand may be known for making people laugh, the British comedian often adds his insight on culture via his blog.

In August Brand posted an essay, titled "Big Brother Isn't Watching You," commenting on the violence and riots that burned through London's suburbs last summer.

This is great! Just when the quality of late night shows was driving me to watch re-runs of Law and Order... I look forward to Brand's show. The current offerings are, without exception, cheap imitations of Johnny Carson.

Yet another freak joins the pack. I think I will retire early.

With his true rock star charisma and humor, this could end up being a pretty good show.

There isn't a sincere or honest bone about Russell Brand. He is Britain's answer to Larry the Cable Guy.

Russsel Brand is hilarious, this show has a chance if they give it everything it needs. I'll watch it.

I've seen his stand up videos. He's very smart. The show could be good.

Russell Brand first gained notoriety as a radio and TV host so this is a great venue for his wit and lightning-speed intellect. He's as smart as any of the late night hosts with the exception of Stewart and Colbert. If only people who don't 'get' Brand will just give it a chance.

I love that he is a brilliant satirist wrapped in the clothes of an idiot. On the surface he plays the moron and those who only judge surfaces think him to be one. Its a great test for shallowness.
