Did Whoopi Goldberg Fart On 'The View' During Claire Danes Interview? (VIDEO)

First Posted: 12/16/11 12:48 PM ET Updated: 12/16/11 03:41 PM ET

After being nominated for a Golden Globe on Thursday, "Homeland" star Claire Danes appeared on "The View" (weekdays, syndicated on ABC) to talk about the new show and her triumphant return to TV. But the interview was sidetracked when co-host Whoopi Goldberg seemed to fart loudly in the middle of their conversation.

As Danes was talking about the issues of post-9/11 American identity that "Homeland" explores, Goldberg shifted in her seat and it sounded like she passed gas. Joy Behar recoiled in horror, but Goldberg simply put her hand on her stomach and excused herself. "Excuse me, I just let a frog out of there," she joked. "It's okay," Danes assured her, extending her hand in support. Like a pro, Goldberg quickly moved on to her next question.

When contacted for a comment by HuffPost TV, an ABC spokesperson insisted Goldberg didn't do the crime. "It was clearly a joke and all in good fun. Secretly we hoped it would get posted on YouToot."

This wouldn't have been the first time Goldberg let one rip on the show. In a May segment with Dr. Oz focused on flatulence, she proudly admitted to frequently farting on the set.

The only way to get to the bottom of this scandal is to depose the people who were there, on the stage. The question is: "What did they smell, and when did they smell it?"

Whoopi excels at being black. Neither Whoopi or Joy exhibit a particle of good taste.

WHY, if when live, there is a time delay to bleep a naughty word, could they not bleep flatulence?

Why is this a story? Whoopi farted on national television, big deal. We all fart. Write a story next time Hasslebeck farts out of her mouth.

If you look at the video closely, you can see her lips moving (while her head is down). Don't think it was a real one....

I was watching, and it sure sounded like a fart to me. Whoopi has few inhibitions, but I don't think she farted on purpose. I think it was an attempt at a slider, but instead, it picked up steam and let it's presence be known! It happens. Heaven help that it happens to me, though I'm old enough to know that my body still has lots of surprises in store for me! ;-)

In her book and in life, Whoopi owns up to and shares the giggles about her rather frequent and unexpected farts. Hellloooooo - she named herself Whoopi in honor of her special gift. Gotta love someone who loves all parts of herself - that's Moxie!

Lighten up--it's the season to be jolly! It was hilarious! What a way to cover--everybody does it! Good joke--I am going to use it the next time my grandchildren "stinker".

After several years of taping The View, I have finally stopped. I have found that two of the hosts are entirely too "light brained" to endure any more. One of them is truly ghetto and will say ANYTHING. Today, she said that for Christmas, she would ask her light headed co-host friend to "have sex with my husband'. Another day, she said that since she had recently married, she spends "much of my time in bed with my husband". She also refers to her new husband as 6'6" and weighs 280 lbs. She has yet to refer to his intelligence, kindness, etc., She speaks of him as is if he is a piece of meat!!! The other light brained one spits out the conservative line of the day, often without doing any prior research to ascertain whether or not there is any truth involved. Joy Behar is the ONLY co-host that I really want to hear anymore. This show started out with much hope, but now, it's just disgusting! It's just too crude, too often!!!

When I was small, I was instructed by my elders that one does not call attention to flatulence. Making an issue of it is the height of bad taste. The country has sunk very low.

I stand corrected about the sound heard by the viewers at home with their bon bons. It was a review of the View.

Just her way of saying good bye to Behar. Good riddance Now, let's say the same for Whoopie cushion.

Whoppi joins another "class act", Barney Frank, for expelling flatulence live, while on the air. In her case, it's the only thing that she's done of note since, "The Color Purple." In Barney's case, I can't think of anything that he's done particularly well, other than his clearly spoken explanation of how well Freddy Mac and Fannie Mae were performing. Unfortunately, less than a year later, both Freddie and Fannie were in a free fall mode.
