Brad Pitt In 'Dallas,' 'Growing Pains,' '21 Jump Street' And His Greatest Roles (VIDEO)

Posted: 12/18/11 03:20 PM ET

Brad Pitt turns 48 years old on Sunday, which to us underscores two things: One, the guy looks good for his age; and two, he's been at this Hollywood superstar thing for a long time.

The Oklahoma native's career is as strong as ever. He earned his fourth Golden Globe nomination on Thursday for his work in "Moneyball," an honor that is a major addition to the critics and festival awards he's been receiving for both that role and his turn in "The Tree of Life." But because birthdays are a day to reflect, we'd rather concentrate on the major roles that brought him to this illustrious point.

Pitt began taking guest turns and small parts in TV series and movies in 1987 after moving out to Hollywood. His first substantial break came when he starred in an arc on the soap opera "Dallas" as Randy, Charlie's tempting boyfriend. Check out his high-pitched voice:

That begat a series of other TV arcs, including spots in "Growing Pains" (with Leo DiCaprio!) and "21 Jump Street" (with Johnny Depp!).

A short-lived starring role on the show "Glory Days" came in 1990, and then his big break, in 1991: "Thelma & Louise."

Fame knocked and Pitt answered. He would go on to star in classics like "Se7en," "A River Runs Through It," "12 Monkeys," "Fight Club," "Snatch," the "Oceans" series, "Burn After Reading," "Inglourious Basterds" and "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," amongst many others. He'll soon star in "World War Z," "Cogans Bluff" and "Twelve Years A Slave," all of which promise to be hits.

Check out some of his best roles below, and vote for your favorite.

If you are a Brad Pitt fan, make sure you see 12 monkeys, with Bruce Willis. It's an older film that may have been overlooked by some. Brad won me over for his acting ability in that film..oh yeah !

I guess this is Brad's quiet before the storm. The next expose' will be how bad an actor he is or he and Angelina are breaking up. Gotta love the media.

He was 25 years old in the Dallas clip....he was a very young looking 25.
I was first cognizant of Pitt as an actor in "A River Runs Through It."

Anytime straight guys get drunk and start asking those stupid "would you rather..?" questions, there's always the "If somebody put a gun to your head and forced you to have sex with a dude, who would it be?". #1 for 15 years running. .

He's stunning... like George Clooney, just one of those guy's who gets better as he gets older, because he has more to offer on a personal level.

A lot of people have been saying that as he gets older he is losing his looks. I think he looks better. We have to face that we are aging and some of us prefer not to use botox and other extraordinary measures.

I like a nice looking older man and Clooney is perfect in this role.

You two want the truly hot middle age guys you gotta venture outside the A list. Take Ed Notron, (B list probably, but what an actor). Fine looking man. (Can you hear the sizzling(hot) in the background? It sounds like bacon frying in a skillet)

Sorry, he does not do it for me. Daniel Craig, Gary Oldman, David Boreanaz are more my type.

Brad Pitt is great! Building houses in New Orleans when our own government forgot NO during and after Katrina. He and Angie rescued 3 children and had 3 more. They travel the world helping people when they could just relax and enjoy their trillions of dollars. Good for them! All Jen had to do was have a baby and she didn't. Her fault he left her.

I loved him in Thelma and Louise. We all have our favorites. Troy is second runner up, even though the movie sucked.
