Batman Trailer: Hines Ward, Heinz Field In Preview Of 'The Dark Knight Rises' (VIDEO)

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 12/19/11 04:33 PM ET Updated: 12/19/11 04:33 PM ET

When Hines Ward signed a four-year contract extension in 2009, it seemed a certainty that football fans would never see him play for a team other than the Pittsburgh Steelers. But the Steelers' iconic uniform will apparently not be the only one that he will wear during his career.

Ward also played -- at least on one day -- for the Gotham Rogues, the fictional franchise of Gotham City in "The Dark Knight Rises."

Ward's cameo in the third installment of director Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy figures prominently in the latest trailer for the film. The veteran wide receiver appears to be returning a kick off or punt for the Rogues when defenders -- and literally the ground beneath his feet -- begin to fall away.

Perhaps to keep Steelers fans from suffering too much of a jolt at their local multiplexes, the costume designers for the latest Batman film outfitted the Rogues with the Steelers' familiar black-and-yellow color scheme. The chaotic action scene involving the Rogues was even filmed at Hienz Field.

Hines Ward is a badass. I remember him playing qb at Forest Park HS many years ago. Tough
then, tough now.

So, if every other player on the field falls into a chasm, does the Steelers D/ST still get fantasy points for this?

Apparently the chief job skill of a super-villain is the ability to plant large amounts of explosives in public places with nobody noticing...

This is the last Nolan Batman. How long for a remake/reboot I wonder?

It's already being planned with Nolan producing.

Meanwhile, Justice League of America is also being planned (for 2013).

I find the whole Batman thing - and comic book movies in general - boring and infantile.

Never paid to see one in the theaters - and when they show up on TV later - invariably validate my wise decision...

Sad that you think so. The social commentary in comics and hero books are actually deeper than you think. People give into stereotypes and miss so much.

This scene just seems too campy. Hines Ward outruns the explosion and then dramatically turns to see the giant hole? Eh...

I agree pretty stupid. Why would they decide to use Ward anyway. No if it blew up the whole team thats pretty cool.

It's like Nolan is paying homage to Pittsburgh, but it's distracting and cheesy. These films have been rather bleak and gritty. The destruction of an entire football stadium could be incredibly intense if it wasn't hammed-up with Hines Ward surviving like he's Indiana Jones running through a booby-trapped jungle cave.

I find the commentary on our culture's obsession with sports and entertainment to be apropos. We spend billions on such nonsense while teachers get paid jack, people go hungry, and big banks evict innocent folk. Sorry, but I think you missed the point.

Why would anyone want a trash talking goon like Ward in their movie?

Yeah, he's horrible. He gives everything he has on every play and helps you win Super Bowls. Who would want him?
