'River Of Blood': China's Jian River Turns Red After Chemical Dump (PHOTOS)

Recent photos of China's Jian River capture a disturbing scene, showing what looks like a river of blood. The red water is the result of an illegal dye dump from a local chemical plant, the International Business Times reports.

After being alerted to the "bloody" river, the Luoyang Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau investigated and immediately cut off the plant's power supply, the state-run Chinese news agency Xinhua reported, according to the International Business Times.

Plant workers allegedly claim they washed a batch of red plastic bags, which lead to the dye leaking into the river.

The Daily Mail reported that, in addition to shutting down the chemical plant's power, officials are now working to disassemble their machinery.

Despite its alarming color, CNN reported lab results revealed no heavy metals or poisonous elements in the water.

The spill comes after raw sewage leaked from three state prisons into a creek that empties into the Arkansas river last week.

State prisons spokeswoman Katherine Sanguinetti told the Denver Post that, while the amount of sewage in the river is still to be determined, the first tests have shown the water to be diluted.

The cause of the river becoming apocalyptic in character was red dye being dumped into the city's storm water pipe network, by two illegal dye workshops, the Luoyang Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau said as authorities said they were working to shut down the workshops, and to disassemble the workshops' machinery. I just want to put this out there but GOP? This is why we regulate companies and this is why we make sure they play by the rules.

If deregulation happens, you get rivers of 'blood' and the problem here is a lot of our fresh water is used for drinking so stuff like this? Bad.
