Stylist Philip Bloch has seen the good, the bad and the ugly when it comes to Hollywood's stars and starlets. But more recently, as the host of ABC World News Now's "Cause Celeb," he has seen more good than bad. He has interviewed the likes of Cee Lo Green, La La and Carmelo Anthony, Christy Turlington and others regarding their charities and philanthropic ventures.
"As I've worked on the more narcissistic side of Hollywood for so many years as a celebrity stylist. When it was only about the dress, the shoes and the jewels, I also knew of many of my celebrity friends that were committed to philanthropy," Bloch told The Huffington Post. "Yet you never hear about that aspect in the media."
In his latest interview, Bloch interviewed comedian and game show host Steve Harvey and his wife, Marjorie, about their foundation, The Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation.
"My takeaway from this interview was that behind every great man, there is indeed an incredible woman -- and Marjorie Harvey is definitely that woman," Bloch said. "She has incredible poise, dignity and class, and I feel that she has really raised the bar for Steve and taken him into the next level, which in turn has propelled him to continue evolving into an improved person, father, entertainer and man."
As part of the Harvey Foundation's mission, mentors take young men under their wing and give them a model of manhood to follow. And for the young ladies, female mentors help them to navigate self-esteem and health issues.
"When I got with Marjorie, she made a conscious effort to talk to me about the philanthropic side ... I wasn't gong all-in. She said, 'Steve, it's important for us to be out there and all-in,'" Harvey said during the interview with Bloch.
Bloch asked the three-times divorced Steve Harvey, who is also the best-selling author of "Think Like A Man, Act Like A Lady," how he became an expert on relationships.
"It's obvious that I have the skill set to convince anybody to do anything, so I took advantage of it." Harvey said. "Failure is a great teacher, and I think when you make mistakes and you recover from them and you treat them as valuable learning experiences, then you've got something to share. I'm not really a relationship expert but ... I'm an expert on manhood and what men think."
