'American Horror Story' Finale: Our Burning Questions For The Explosive Season 1 Finale

American Horror Story Finale

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 12/21/11 06:57 PM ET Updated: 12/21/11 07:14 PM ET

"American Horror Story" has put us through an emotional roller coaster of a first season. Its macabre nature may have turned some viewers away from their TV screens, but the FX show's jaw-dropping twists and dramatic performances have been keeping fans tuned in week-after-week.

Now, in "American Horror Story's" final hour, one has to wonder if Ben Harmon (Dylan McDermott) can have any sort of a happy ending. While we can't be certain if his fate will a happy one, we do know that tonight's season finale completes the grim story of Ben Harmon, one filled with betrayal, shock and death.

Next season will see a new family move into the death house because, haven't the Harmons have suffered enough? That's just one of the many burning questions I have for the Season 1 finale of "American Horror Story."

Is Ben Harmon going to die?
Honestly, this makes the most sense. After Vivien's (Connie Britton) death in last week's episode "Birth," and Violet's (Taissa Farmiga) shocking death reveal two weeks ago, there seems to be a fatal trend for the Harmon family. However, seeing Vivien and Violet connect in the ghost world was one of the most emotionally charged scenes of the season. Dare I say it, but it almost seemed hopeful for the mother-daughter duo. So what could be better than the Harmon family connecting in the afterlife? Only in "American Horror Story" would a character death bring a happy ending.

Who's in the Rubber Man suit now?
We know that Tate (Evan Peters) was revealed as the elusive Rubber Man, but new promo pictures of Wednesday's finale show someone else donning the suit. Could it be Ben? Probably. But why? No idea.

What's going to happen to the demon baby?
Poor Ben. He lost his wife and got stuck with a demon baby that wasn't his. Now, Constance (Jessica Lange) and Hayden (Kate Mara) are in a battle for a demon baby, who happens to be growing at an alarming rate. Plus, all of the ghosts in the house happen to have baby fever. Why does everyone want a baby?

What happened to the stillborn baby that Charles (Matt Ross) delivered and handed to Nora (Lily Rabe)?
Something tells me that we'll be seeing more of Vivien's stillborn child -- and here's hoping that the baby shows up in the weird ghostly afterlife. Vivien has been handed a few tough blows this season, so it would be nice to give her the somewhat happy ending she deserves.

Can Violet and Vivien change the energy of the house?
After their emotional reunion last week, Violet and Vivien are on a mission rid the house of its ghostly visitors. However, Billie Dean's 1590 "croatoan" ritual didn't exactly work when Violet tried to banish Chad (Zachary Quinto) and Pat (Teddy Sears) from the property. Maybe now that Vivien is there to help, the pair can bring the smack down on the evil energy? I'd personally love to see Vivien take out some of her aggression on Hayden because every great finale needs an epic showdown.

What will Tate do to make up with Violet now that she knows her ghostly boyfriend raped her mother and fathered her brother?
Okay, this might sound crazy, but I actually really really enjoyed the relationship between Tate and Violet. In the finale, I hope the teenage couple has some sort of resolution. Although, Tate's probably going to have his hands full with his demon baby.

Will the Harmon family get a happy ending?
In an interview with ETonline, Taissa Farmiga revealed, "I don't think it will be a completely happy ending, but there will be a little bit of sunshine." Could the little bit of sunshine be Ben's death? Or does it mean that Violet and Vivien knock some sense into Ben and he finally leaves the Murder House once and for all?

Watch an ETonline exclusive from tonight's finale below. What do you think will happen, and what questions do you want answered? The 90-minute season finale of "American Horror Story" airs Wed., Dec. 21 at 10 p.m. ET on FX.

Congrats! to Jessica Lange, best supporting actress. You are one of my all time favorite actresses, always delving into her role and giving the character in which you portray so much depth. If I know your in a movie, tv series, I will watch it. In American Horror, you are brillianty wicked, charming and funny too.
Again, Congratulations for a first class performance.

IF THE GHOST STAY THE SAME AGE AS WHEN THEY DIE, WHY IS MORE THE HOUSE KEEPER OLD IF SHE WAS YOUNG WHEN CONSTANCE KILLED HER?

This has been a great show, but exactly how crowded is this house going to get? It's going to get terrifically convoluted and impossible for new viewers to figure out if they don't figure out how to get rid of some of the ghosts.

I thought the finale was good, not great. The previous two episodes were better.
The kid at the end was not creepy enough.

Jessica Lange nailed the bitchy southern belle character. I know, I'm kin to some of the worst of the lot.

She played Blanch DuBois on Broadway.

The show started out strong, but ended with a fizzle. Jessica Lang was superb. After reading Ryan Murphy's interview regarding next season.. I'm not too impressed and certainly at odds with whether I'll give the show another chance.

A new season with a new family and a new house with no returning cast members? I don't like the sound of that. I hope I'm wrong.

The last episode wasn't strong, but the second-to-last episode was the strongest of the series. Considering it's Ryan Murphy, starting over from scratch each season and having the full story mapped out from the beginning may help keep it fresh and powerful - his series have a way of going downhill pretty quickly after starting out strong, with characters that turn into parodies of themselves. Having new characters to play with each season may be just what he needs to keep the quality of a series high.

I agree. "Glee" started strong and slipped into the toilet. It's off my DVR this season. Same for "Nip/Tuck."

Jessica Lange. It a hoot to watch her steal every scene she is in!

An amazing show. I love it that FX takes chances on shows that turn out to be ridiculously excellent.

IMO, "The Shield" is still their flagship series (with "Sons of Anarchy" quickly assuming that role as I type). I hope that "American Horror Story" enjoys a long life like FX's other shows!

And I've been a fan of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" since Day One! A brilliant channel.

This cast is incredible. The story is so tongue-in-cheek cheesy horror, but I find myself riveted. I want more! The only thing that makes the season ending bearable is the return of "Justified" in January.

How great was Constance's scene in the beauty parlor? She's riveting in every scene she's in.

Best Constance line of the episode: "Lady Clairol and I have become entirely too familiar." LOL

Here's hoping that Miss Lange gets another Emmy to go along with the one she got for her equally brilliant performance in Grey Gardens.

I liked how she stepped over the body and calmly said to the boy "Now what am I going to do with you" as she checks the blood on his face and smile. I hope she wins her Golden Globe nomination.

I wasn't blown away by the finale but considering how good this show is and how much I love it, the bar has been set pretty high. They've reinvented horror for television, and it's scarier and more interesting than most horror movies where they throw zillions of dollars on effects and no story. This show as been fascinating episode after episode and climbed into brilliant a few episodes. Home Invasion (ep. 2) was the best one hour of televisionI saw all year. And Jessica Lange, who already has two Oscars and at least one Emmy is going to be moving all those awards aside to collect a few news ones for her performance here. She had me totally smitten in ep. 2 when Constance lead her daughter out of Murder House with a lightness in her voice and a smile on her face then turned to Vivien with a snarl and spit out, "Ever touch my daughter again I will break your arm."

Not sure if they can surpass this in year two but you're assured one thing, it'll be interesting.

Agree. Last weeks episode was so scary, I had to watch some Chrisitmas movie on LMN afterwards. Scary, creepy stuff. Not sure what will happen next year. Love Jessica Lange too. She is brillant as Constance.
