Bowl Games 2011-2012: The Best Games Of The College Football Bowl Season

With a schedule pockmarked with seemingly uninspiring events with names like the Belk Bowl and the Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl, it can be easy to ignore the lesser dates on the congested college football calendar. But let the not-famous-enough Famous Idaho Potato Bowl be a lesson to us all.

Certainly, most college football fanatics did not have the Dec. 17 between Ohio University and Utah State circled on their calendars. But those two unheralded squads authored a thrilling contest that surely made a compelling case for their being so very many bowl games in so very many unlikely locales. After all, this game certainly didn't seem the afterthought while watching Ohio score the go-ahead touchdown on a quarterback keeper with 13 seconds remaining and then hold on for dear life as Utah State lateraled the ball up and down the field on the game's frenetic final play in a last-ditch attempt to come from behind on the team that had just come from behind on them. In short, this sweet Potato Bowl represented the potential in each of these contests regardless of the BCS-pedigrees of the participants. Of course, not every game -- perhaps not even some of the BCS games -- can live up to such high standards. But, here are the games that are likeliest to entertain by virtue of the fact that they feature the most dominating teams, exciting individual performers and compelling matchups. On-paper, these bowls figure to be brimming with just the sort of captivating action than came to us unexpectedly from Idaho. So, dear friends, please remember the Potato. Because while these games SHOULD be the best you never know what games will be.
