Dad Andre Curry Faces Abuse Charges Over Facebook Photo Of Daughter

CHICAGO — A 21-year-old Chicago man faces abuse charges after he allegedly posted a photograph on Facebook that shows his daughter's hands, legs and mouth apparently bound with blue tape.

Police spokesman Officer Ron Gaines says Andre Curry is charged with aggravated domestic battery.

Police say Curry apparently posted the photograph on his Facebook page with the words, "This is wut happens wen my baby hits me back."

The photograph has since been removed but police didn't have any details about when it was removed.

Curry is to appear in domestic court Wednesday. It wasn't immediately clear whether he has an attorney.

Kendall Marlowe, spokesman for the Department of Children and Family Services, says the agency has never investigated Curry. He wouldn't say whether DCFS has interviewed the child or Curry.

Just the duct tape alone is abuse, but when you hear the reason why he did it "when my baby hits me back", you wonder if he realizes he just confessed to child abuse.

I dont think its duct tape. It looks like the kind of paint you use for painting. That stuff is not sticky at all and certainly wouldn't hurt the baby. I have a picture of my 3 year old boy wrapped in saran wrap like a burrito. He was laughing the whole time. I think the caption says "anybody hungry?" Did I confess to cannibalism?

He will not be convicted of anything ! Hell if Casey Anthony can get away with duct taping and the murder of Caylee. Why should he be convicted ? That's the message that was sent to the public by the brainless jury .

I don't find this funny at all, this is terrible! I have a baby sister and I can't imagine someone doing this to her. If he was serious, it's sick...if he was joking, it's still sick. The pic breaks my heart, just because he may have been joking doesn't mean the child understood that

He was incredibly stupid but I do not think, without other evidence, this constitutes abuse. I think he thought it was funny, but the poor child was probably terrified and it was not at all funny. Would love to see how his FB "friends" responded. Let him go -- believe me, he understands and will never do this again.

Does anyone think maybe he was just playing? I mean, I get that the joke was in poor taste, but "when my baby hits me back"? One year old children can't hit back. Maybe he just thought it would be funny to bind her with duct tape and take a picture, then remove the duct tape and post it on facebook with what he thought was a funny caption.

Don't get me wrong -- if it was a joke, it was poorly done, and not many would find it funny. But it just doesn't seem like he was being serious. I am all for investigating him, because I think any potentially abusive parent should be investigated, but I don't think this actually looks like abuse.

Its blue. I dont think its duct tape. I think its painters tape (maybe duct tape brain painters tape) and that stuff is barely sticky enough to stick to the wall, let alone hurt a person.

Hitting a baby is already teaching the baby to be a hitter too , totally wrong for the father to do this or hit his kid . On the other hand how many of us that have had kids can deny that we have had a mental image like this photo at one time or another when our own kids were acting out ROFL .... while i dont condone doing it at all i have to admit my first reaction was a laugh at seeing an old mental picture in print so to speak (big difference between thinking about doing it and doing it though)

That's what it looks like to me. Unless the pixelation of her face is making it appear so, she's fast asleep. It's what you call a staged photograph, we did similar to each other as children. It was worth saving up to buy a pack of polaroid film for just such things, almost convinced my brother we broke cinder blocks over his head while he was asleep. Used a dish rack to hold one just over his head and showed the head of a hammer in one shot, gently set halves and a few small shards around his head for shot two, cleared all the stuff away and sprinkled a little concrete dust in his hair which woke him up...

Lazy parenting. Spanking your child is the easiest form of discpline. This guy took this way to far, the sad thing is parents like this think its funny or hard core to spank your child. Who are you really spanking for? yourself becuase your angry and it makes you feel better? All your teaching is if you mess up you hit. And most of the time the child will repeat the same behavior, so spanking then turns to abuse becuase obviously your form of discpline isn't working. I feel so sorry for the children of my generation, too many teens having babies, how can you raise a baby when your a baby yourself. Hope this guy sees some jail time. And hopefully no contact with the child.

I never said that teens were bad parents. But as a teen your not even able to care for yourselves. They may think they can take care of themselves. All im saying is people are having children at such a young age. Why cant' they just enjoy being a child....being a grown up can wait!

She was probably at work and da da was supposed to be watchin the kid,but the little girl was probably distracting him from texting a different baby mama. I do believe that he was only goofing off,he may be stupid for that but I don't believe he intended to keep her taped up and I hope I am right for the kids sake

Well...nowadays, spankings are criminalized. How else are you supposed to punish your kid when they get out of line? Back in the day, kids were routinely spanked or sent to the corner and they managed to grow up into functioning adults (myself included.) The ones who are coddled and given everything they want and never feel the slap of a hand on their bums are the ones running around getting into all kind of trouble as teenagers. This is an extreme example, yes, but at least the guy didn't lock his kid in the closet for days or throw her in the woods...

I'm not condoning what this guy did. I am only trying to point out that disciplining your kid is now against the law, it seems. What this man did is clearly beyond the scope of proper parenting. I was just using this topic as a sounding board.
