Drinking With 'Bored To Death' Creator Jonathan Ames in Brooklyn After Cancellation

Drinks With 'Bored To Death' Creator

With HBO's drastic Christmas cleaning yesterday -- canceling "Hung," "How to Make It In America," and Bored To Death" -- many TV viewers are in mourning.

And for those particularly disheartened by the loss of "Bored to Death," creator Jonathan Ames told Gothamist that he plans to do something about it.

"I invite all fans of 'Bored to Death' to come to the Brooklyn Inn tomorrow night, Wednesday, and I'll buy you a drink," Ames told the site. "John Hodgman will be joining me and perhaps other local New York City actors from the show will be there, and we can all toast Bored to Death and a completely loony and improbable three-year run."

Gothamist suggests fans arrive at 10 p.m. ET on Wed., Dec. 21 to drink their cancellation and pre-holiday pains away with Ames and Hodgman, who appeared on the series as Ames' arch-nemesis Louis Green, a literary reviewer.

"Bored to Death" premiered on HBO in the fall of 2009 and starred Jason Schwartzman as a fictional version of Ames, but only half of a stretch. Schwartzman's Ames was a writer based in Brooklyn, who moonlights as an unlicensed private detective. The supporting cast -- Ted Danson and Zach Galifianakis -- stole the show, which critics seemed to think got better with age.

In 2010, "Bored to Death" earned an Emmy -- albeit for Main Title Design-- and in 2009, the show reached a ratings high when it retained 92 percent of the total 1.1 million people who tuned into "Curb Your Enthusiasm's" "Seinfeld" reunion episode. But "Bored to Death" did struggle to maintain a steady audience.

Now, those loyal fans who did tune into "Bored to Death's" three seasons can take Ames up on his offer to pour one out for the stoner-friendly show.
