Rachel Maddow Hammers John Boehner And House Republicans For Rejecting Payroll Tax Extension Bill (VIDEO)

Rachel Maddow

First Posted: 12/21/11 01:36 PM ET Updated: 12/21/11 01:43 PM ET

Rachel Maddow hammered Speaker John Boehner and House Republicans Tuesday night for what she called "another Congressional crisis."

Maddow was referring to House Republicans' decision to reject a Senate bill that would have extended the payroll tax cuts. Maddow said that over one million Americans will see their taxes increase on January 1 if House Republicans don't "vote to extend the payroll tax."

"Sure this real and really bad thing is about to happen to the entire country but meh — they have other stuff to do," Maddow said of House Republicans.

Maddow criticized Boehner and House Republicans for using their time in Congress to vote on what she found less pressing issues. Maddow played clips of the House voting to place a bust of Winston Churchill in the U.S. Capitol.

"So Americans, when your paycheck shrinks substantially on January 1, at least you can take comfort that we'll have the Churchill bust to cuddle up to in the Capitol," Maddow said.

you can't deny her partisan-angle on how she looks at things, but also you can't deny that she's one of the smartest journalists out there.

Can't deny she is not a journalist and she is one sided. pay roll tax is a joke compared to what the GOP was fighting for. Lower energy rates and jobs.

as I mentioned she has a partisan perspective and hence a journalist with questionable ethics but still a journalist.
I guess in your post you are referring to the Keystone project - have you checked what else was on the bill?

And you may check the sources for the Keystone thing and weigh pros and cons again.

About the jobs: there are extremely diverse figures flowing around ranging from 3500 to 20000 jobs, so this has to be questioned again which figures are accurate.

About the lower energy prices: By draining Midwestern refineries of cheap Canadian crude into export-oriented refineries in the Gulf Coast, Keystone will increase the cost of gas for Americans. And there is no effect whatsoever to make Americans less dependable on oil from the Middle-East.

amazing the number of people who think that criticism of this democratic party shill ONLY emerges from right-wing yahoos, and then perform their necessary knee-jerk anti-republican rant.

you want "State Department News Network"??? watch CNN. You want "Democratic National Committee News Network"???? watch MSNBC. You want "Republican National Committee News Network"??? watch Fox. You want to get news that is outside the control of the American Propaganda Network? Find a foreign news source. And no, that doesn't mean Reuters or AP.

To all of you Rachel bashers who say that only progressives listen to Rachel and that ratings have somehow something to do with anything, you should thank your lucky stars that basic cable doesn't offier MSNBC because if middle America tuned into her a few times, they might become enlightened
from viewing the world from a more intelligent prospective.

The first step should be for the Congress to relinquish thier entitlements to lifetime benefits.

Thank you, Rachel. You're a breath of fresh air amongst the ranting right-wing yahoos who pretend to be journalists but are merely propagandists.

H-P's continued efforts to somehow make Maddow relevant by constantly making up stories based on things she says on air are a failure !! No one watches her !! No one cares what she says except other progs and they only do because it makes them feel good about themselves. She validates them

try to keep up here - Rachel has been steadily moving up in viewership - gaining, when all things fox are loosing viewership (double digit compared to 2010).
Pretty relevant when even PolitiFactCheck mentions Rachel as one of the primary sources of information for the left

If she was irrelevant and nobody watched her, you wouldn't have bothered to comment on this in the first place.

PolitiFactCheck does not take sides ... It reports what is true and what insn't. Rachel Maddow has a very good recor for reporting facts.

I love that Rachel Maddow! Thanks for the facts and logic!

You have to realize that the tax cutting republicans didn't want to pass this bill because Obama was the one who was instigating it. Here are the tax cutting republicans, who supposedly hate taxes, trying to vote against a tax cut....why..... because Obama was the one who wanted this bill to pass. They tried putting into it everything they knew Democrats would never go for. Why are the republicans so against helping Americans get back on their feet? They would rather go against everything a Democratic president tries to past for the sake of making him fail. This is what this country has gotten into, a party set on going against the will and betterment of the American public to stop this president at every step.

Maddow is just as Bias as anyone on Fox, if you don't see that you are a Partisan Hack!1.

I have a feeling that Mr. Speaker won't be Mr. Speaker much longer lol. If repubs retain control I fear his successor.
