Ed Schultz Responds To Eric Bolling And Fox News' "The Five" Criticism

Ed Schultz

First Posted: 12/22/11 09:05 AM ET Updated: 12/22/11 09:08 AM ET

Ed Schultz responded to comments made by the hosts of Fox News' "The Five" on his MSNBC show Wednesday night. Schultz was referring to "The Five's" discussion of his visit to the White House on Monday.

"The Five's" Greg Gutfeld called the group that visited the White House, which included fellow MSNBC host Rachel Maddow, a "lump of lefties," and compared Schultz's hair to the BP oil spill.

"Cheap shots all around!" Schultz said after he replayed clips of "The Five's" segment. "Nevertheless, host Eric Bolling, well he had to get something off his chest totally unrelated to the topic at hand," Schultz said. He replayed a clip of Bolling telling his co-hosts that he once met Schultz unexpectedly at a nearby steakhouse and bought him a drink. Bolling seemed surprised that Schultz did not reciprocate by buying him a drink.

Schultz laughed and said, "Sorry dude, I didn't realize you were looking for a handout. For the record, first of all, I don't drink with Republicans and I don't remember meeting Eric Bolling ever!" Schultz encouraged Bolling to "identify [himself] if he sees Schultz out again. "If it really bothers you, I'll give you a hand out and buy you a cool one," Schultz said.

So you're just trying to add "cheap" and "uninformed" to your list of deficiencies, Ed? Touche. You showed them. Too bad nobody's watching.

Just like the hacks of Fox, you have nothing so you attack the person. You demonstrate 'cheap' and 'uninformed'.
08:55 PM on 12/26/2011
And you think that somehow Ed comes out on top in this? You really need to examine your thought processes, because you're not as "open-minded" or "balanced" as you thought.

Right on ED. Keep up the good job
10:37 PM on 12/23/2011
Earlier in the day on his radio show, Ed flatly denied that he had ever met Bolling. By the time his MSNBC show aired, he had a change of heart and decided to say "I do not remember the encounter with Bolling".

How Ed stays on the air is beyond me. Of course it helps that he works for the worst rated cable news network.

Schultz is the one who took the handout. Schultz accepted the free drink without reciprocating. Is that what liberals normally do, take without returning the favor?

Why isn't Schultz calling his acceptance of the first drink from Bolling a handout?

You don't buy someone a drink with the intention of them buying you one back. That is in poor taste.
08:26 AM on 12/24/2011
While I agree you don't buy someone a drink just to get one back in return, it is only proper to do so. If we are co-workers (or even friends) and going out for lunch and I say, I will get the check, I darn well expect you to say the same next time if you are in a financial position to do so.

If Ed had no intention of reciprocating, he should have refused the first drink. Does Ed just take things people offer him without any feeling of gratitude? There is a name for women who accept gifts for doing nothing..

Well, it's the Re-thug-li-can way to expect payback for ANYTHING they do. RECIPROCATE??....I'll bet you all carry around a little black book of Favors Done, and check them off, as you are RECIPROCATED! What a bunch of........
10:55 AM on 12/26/2011
It's the Democratic way to take and take and take from others and do nothing in return. I bet you just expect to get everything given to you and do nothing in return. That is why so many of you live on welfare and don't even try to better yourselves.

Fox is one of the main reasons the country is so divided. It is Obama hate spewing on a daily basis, nearly 24/7. As I have stated before, other outlets have a perspective, Fox has an agenda and will go to extreme lengths to keep American's at each others throats and expectorate disrespectful verbal rubbish in their agenda to bring down the president.
08:43 PM on 12/23/2011
Is there any hate spewed on MSNBC? Is Ed Schultz respectful of Republicans at all times? I would say MSNBC has an agenda when each show on their evening lineup has the same topics. Do you really think all Americans are concerned about voter suppression?
10:38 PM on 12/23/2011
Have you EVER, I mean EVER heard any news person on Fox News Network say "I will not drink with Democrats"? Of course you haven't. Fox News and CNN are civilized, unlike MSNBC.

Well first republicans have no empathy, are the talk of late night shows. republicans are deluded and need to be constantly called out. You don't like having your cover being exposed. you are the vote suppressors and everything bad about America.

to mislead the mind or judgment of; deceive: His conceit deluded him into believing he was important.

Ever since the WI events all Ed does is bash on fox, thats ok but it is really not news in any manner of the word. He has about as much credit as Rush just a different side of the coin. I still believe every coin has three sides.

I'll tell you what... let's bring back the Fairness Doctrine and apply it to everyone - cable news, all of them.... I will guarantee you that guys like Ed Schultz will come out on top, because ultimately - the truth prevails... and no matter what you may think, the Truth IS NOT on Fox News or any other Right Wing News organization... take that to the bank
08:44 PM on 12/23/2011
And the truth is on MSNBC? You are sick.

If it wasn't for Ed's reporting, most likely the rest of the country wouldn't have been aware of what was happening in Wisconsin and Ohio. Thank goodness he's on the air. He's calling out the Koch-run governors, Walker and Kasik. Good for him!
03:57 PM on 12/23/2011
Poor "Big Chief Black Cloud" Schultz can't even play nice with Anderson Cooper who is by no means a conservative talk show host.

There is a reason why Ed was one of the best quarterbacks in the nation when he was in college. He can sling it with the best of him. He gives it just like he takes it and walks it like he talks it. Fox folks should be so straight up as ED.

So what if. Fox is a schill for whatever republican is hot at the time no matter what his or her skeletons are. Look we are all grown folks and most us are not looking for fair and unbalance no how we profess it. It still does not make a lie a fact nomatter how anyone spins it. The candidates are all politician no matter how ultruistic they try to sound to sound. They have human frailties. Some are left, right, racist, ageist, elitist, anarchist, narccistst...whatever. Yes I am an Obama supporter and yes he pisses me off sometime, however in this case he is best for this country and truly better than the entire GOP Whack Pack that's running. The shame is that republicanone know it too. The keep saying they all can beat Obama and would be better than Obama but everyone knows it's just not true. No one actually believes that Cain, Bachmann, Santorum or Gingrich can beat him. Yet they all pretend they could.
