Best Social Apps To Help You Look Smooth In Public

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 12/23/11 10:21 AM ET   Updated: 12/23/11 04:43 PM ET

According to Localytics, an app research company, 26 percent of apps downloaded in 2010 were only used once.

You could clutter up your phone with apps that let you pretend to drink beer out of your handset, but wouldn't it be better to fill it up with apps that actually help you look cool in front of your friends?

Check out our slideshow below for five apps that help you surmount common social problems.

The Solution: "Don't Drink And Dial"

It's 2 a.m., the bar closed, your friends dispersed and now you have a 20-minute walk home. What a convenient time to call your mom, babysitter or ex-boyfriend and have a long conversation about life! If only there was some magic way to prevent ever again waking up and remembering that you talked to That Guy for 16 minutes and 38 seconds about your deep and undying love for Portnoy's Complaint and him. There is! With Don't Drink And Dial you simply choose the people you don't want to call, and set the timer for the next morning. As long as the timer is going you won't be able to call, text or email anyone you have blocked.

If your social life revolves around what you have on a phone you should re evaluate your priorities.

Sorry, but if you can't calculate a 15 or 20 percent tip in your head, you shouldn't be buying things. Just move the decimal, for frakk sake.

Anyone who wants to "look cool" in front of their friends has serious problems. Why would any sane person need an app to make them feel better about themselves? How sad.

One of the nice things about pushing 60 is that I don't give rat's pitooty about impressing anyone. It comes with age and being comfortable with who you are. You'll get there.

although it is in the title, the article has nothing to do with that.. It is about useful apps.

Just downloaded the Tip app, just for fun. I have Onstar so chances are I won't lose my car. Wish there was a list of the top apps for iPhone for 2011.

"even take a picture of the car before you leave it to make extra sure that you make it back. " Great for those that forget what their car looks like?

If you need those apps, perhaps you need to visit a clinic or counselor first?

Namerick is not free. Just checked. 99 cents. Almost free, but not.

The 'good' news is that Carrier IQ's apps are still quietly there to balance out the good apps.
