Melanie Amaro Says What She Will Do With $5 Million Winnings From 'The X Factor' (VIDEO)

The X Factor USA's very first winner may not have planned her next career step, but Melanie Amaro knows exactly where a good chunk of that five million dollar cash prize is going -- to her mother!

"I'm gonna buy my mom a house," said Melanie proudly. Following that sweet splurge, Amaro plans to give herself a much deserved rest with a "first class plane ticket to Hawaii." The 19-yr-old tells ET she wants nothing more than to spend her holidays relaxing on the beach with a pina colada in hand. Virgin, of course.

Simon Cowell calls the shots so she was going to win from the beginning, no matter what the vote was. Chris was the best, young, good looking and different from the other two. She sings like about a million other singers at bars. Chris was very differrent and actually will sell records. She may sell a few but that would be for her family.

I'm glad for Melanie but also would have liked to see the other two finalists get a prize. Without a doubt, she has the best voice. I'm sure that Chris and Josh will wind up with recording contract themselves.

I thought the lighting on the stage has been fantastic throughout the show's first season and raised the bar for American Idol to pull in big audience ratings.

I LIKED ALL THREE FINALISTS BUT I GUESS WAS ROOTING FOR CHRIS EVEN THOUGH I KNEW HE WASN'T THE BEST SINGER. MELANIE WAS AWESOME THOUGH. WOULD LIKE TO HAVE SEEN THEM DIVIDE THE MONEY UP........1 MIL FOR THE THIRD PLACE WINNER, 1 MIL FOR SECOND AND 3 MIL CONTRACT FOR THE BIG WINNER. SPREAD THE WINNINGS MORE. Congrats to her, but I wouldn't be so quick to plan spending 5 million. It's not in cash, it's a "recording contract" - they are going to deduct all the costs of managing her and producing, writing, recording, and marketing her first album, along with any tour promotions and expenses. Depending on how it sells, she should get a decent amount, but it won't be 5 million in cash.

This is a direct quote from Simon Cowell on the official X Factor website: "How it works is record companies give artists advances against their earnings, which is non returnable. This is a $5 million advance against earnings, so if they don't sell any records, they still get the $5 million. So they got to sell records," he says.

It was brave & honest of her to show her real self but probably not too wise considering some people's reaction. Here in N.Y. many immigrants will "turn off" their natural accent if they are able to in an effort to be judged fairly. It's ironic how no one is disturbed when Hugh Laurie(House) reverts to his natural British accent.
