Obama 2012 Campaign, Democratic National Committee Set $60 Million Fundraising Goal For End Of Year

Obama 2012 Fundraising

By KEN THOMAS   12/23/11 02:25 PM ET   AP

WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama's re-election campaign and the Democratic Party have set a combined fundraising goal of $60 million for the final three months of 2011, an amount that would help them surpass $200 million for 2011.

Obama's campaign and the Democratic National Committee have collected $156 million through the end of September and would easily push past $200 million if the goal is met. The campaign and DNC raised about $70 million from July through late September.

The campaign and DNC have not yet met the fundraising goals but the president is not expected to participate in any fundraising events for the remainder of the year, a campaign official told The Associated Press. The official spoke on condition of anonymity and was not authorized to speak publicly.

Obama told top fundraisers recently that his re-election is not a "slam dunk" because many people are grappling with unemployment and the aftermath of the housing meltdown. He said his campaign would put forth a "vision that is truest to our history and most representative of the core decency of the American people."

Campaign officials expect the eventual Republican nominee to be competitive with Obama on fundraising, given the role of super PACs, independent groups that may accept unlimited donations but are not supposed to directly coordinate with candidates. Leading Republican contenders Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich have not yet outlined fundraising goals for the quarter.

Obama headlined 15 campaign fundraising events in October through December, about half the number of events he participated in during the first three months of his re-election campaign. The campaign has offered a "Dinner with Barack and Michelle" to boost campaign contributions online, allowing donors the chance to enter a drawing to have dinner with the first couple. The move followed a "Dinner with Barack" promotion earlier in the year.

Obama departed Washington on Friday to begin a delayed vacation in Hawaii.

Where is the news on Obama's Budget being defeated 414-0?!
Not a single Democrat voted for it!

Obama has 1 billion dollars in his war chest and intends to spend every last penny of it on his smear campaign. Be prepared for the non stop bombardment with his hope and change propaganda. He even plans on having the Obama cable channel broadcasting non stop 24x7. Ugh.. Why doesn't he use this 1 billion to help the middle class?

Since Obama has outspent the GOP, it seems you are feeding a political machine that dwarfs the so-called "GOP money machine".

"vision that is truest to our history and most representative of the core decency of the American people."

The purest, unadulterated propaganda.

I'll repeat what I've said elsewhere: We're well on our way into a kleptocratic plutocracy, with the 1% guarded by the militarized children of the 99%.

Super PACs will try to change the game this time. That's what they do. Even If Obama does actually raise $1 billion, he will still need additional support to counter the unlimited money that will pour in on the republican side.

When I read positive comments herein about the payroll tax cut that President Obama is so proud of, it just confirms my suspicion that most Americans really do not understand politics and what is really happening in Washington. Obama knows that most voters are gullible and easily manipulated and he is a master at sound bites and saying what he thinks the voters want to hear. You must know that the payroll "tax" cut is really a cut in what those working (have jobs) are paying into the Social Security pension fund and not a cut in a real "tax" like the federal income tax. What Obama is doing with this this cut in revenue going into SS is just making the financial problem with SS worse, why would he do this? If you want to cut taxes, cut ANY of the real taxes like the income tax rates, but not pension contributions.
04:41 PM on 12/25/2011
It will be repaid to Social Security from the general fund. It isn't a draw from Social Security funds - it's a loan. By having the tax reduction based on Social Security payments middle and low income people benefit the most. For the rich, Social Security fees stop at a small portion of their income - for the rest, we pay it on all our income. So this actually is a tax cut designed for middle and low income folks. It also puts much more money back into the economy than a tax cut for the rich would.

Even by your own words you don't see the problem?
"it's a loan"
When is this loan going to be repaid? Who pays the interest?

But that's not what it is. They are tied together - you've fallen for the slight of hand.

They cut the income of SS. They replace lost revenue from the treasury which may default sooner than later. SS already owns special bonds from the general fund. So the General fund will approach default SOONER and leave SS without the additional income both from the payroll tax AND the GF treasuries. Oh yeah and we have to borrow more from China which will cost us more in interest payments.

Enjoy that extra tank, no wait, half tank of gas.

"why would he do this?"

You do this so later you can come back and say "Oh look Social Security is in trouble be better cut it or privatize it."

I was on a School Board once...spent about $200. I guess we will find a way to make this happen, each in their own way.

Yes, because running a school board is on the same level as running a country with 312,833,710 people. :

The president's fundraising team is good with small bundlers, I'll give them that. They will need it, since Wall Street isn't going to give them money and the $$$ of Citizens United comes pouring in for the GOP during the general.

Uh, I beg to differ.

According to Michael Moore (an Obama supporter) Obama has raised more Wall Street cash this election cycle than all other Republican candidates COMBINED.

Who does Obama represent? The poor, working or middle class?

Heck no, he represents the 1% and protects his Wall Street buddies from EVERY seeing the inside of a jail cell.

All that money Obama has is from the 4-Trillion he cannot account for. You can buy
a lot of votes with 4-Trillion Dollars. He has to finish his JOB. That is to put America
in sooo much debt that we end up a third World Country. I hope I never live to see
that happen. I LOVE my Country. How did we allow this to happen. GOD BLESS US..
06:06 PM on 12/24/2011
This entire eletion is a big farce. It is already set up like the first one and Obama will win a second
Term. The votes have already been fixed, just like the first vote. This is a Communist set up
like the first one was. The reason you cannot find Obama's birth certificate is because he doe
not have one. It was illegal for him to place his hand on our Bible with the Koran on the Bible.
He was taken the oath using the Koran. Through this man on the first Boad to Kenya. That is where he came from and where he belongs. Do the right thing for America this time. PLEASE

Yeah he sets an ambitious goals for fund raising but not for job creating. How many times did he pivot to job creation in his first term? Yeah your the champ Obama, 4th best ever so you say.
12:41 PM on 12/24/2011
You must have ignored the numerous proposals to create jobs and stimulate the economy that have been killed by your Tea Party controlled Congress...They realize that if the economy start growing again, it will uncut their desire to hurt the President and as such, they can even rebel and disagree to pass bills they have already agreed on before until been shamed to do it ..eg the payroll tax cut...

The only job creating idea that have come out from the GOP is to cut taxes...

Want to set a REAL impressive new goal?

How about 10 million new jobs?

FDR did it, in his first 100 days in office, with public works programs that built infrastructure still being used and benefiting vast numbers of Americans today.

Course it pissed off a lot of corporations and the wealthy, but he still got re-elected.........3 times.

FDR had a Democrat majority in both chambers of Congress for 10 years and a supermajority in Congress for 2 years. Obama had a slight super majority for a far smaller amount of time. Plus, I doubt Republicans were as filibuster happy as they are now.

So something like that shouldn't be the goal? No ambitious idealism allowed. Justice and decency are not on the table. Nor is common sense.

Cowardice and defeatism and just plain duplicity is what we've gotten from the Democratic Party's leadership in general since Ronald Reagan managed to cow them into submission.

We needed another FDR, instead we got the second coming of Reagan.
