Ed Schultz Criticizes Fox News For 'Exploiting Christmas' (VIDEO)

Ed Schultz

First Posted: 12/24/11 10:54 AM ET Updated: 12/24/11 01:04 PM ET

MSNBC's Ed Schultz tore into Fox News' morning show for, according to Schultz, "exploiting Christmas."

Schultz was referring to a Talking Points Memo article about the "Fox and Friends" Friday morning show. Hosts Steve Doocy and Brian Kilmeade warned that it might cost more money to plug in Christmas lights next year. Doocy and Kilmeade were referring to the Environmental Protection Agency's enforcement of tighter regulations on coal-fired power plants, which could potentially increase electrical costs.

Doocy also hosted a segment called "How Not To Get Sued Over Christmas," where Fox News' resident lawyer Peter Johnson, Jr. urged individuals to purchase insurance since, according to Johnson, Jr., one dozen deaths are caused by Christmas trees each year.

"According to Fox and Friends, you'll be lucky make it through the holiday season without dying, killing someone, or getting sued," Schultz said. He added that the "Fox and Friends" hosts typically defend the holiday "to the point of insanity." After Friday's show, Schultz criticized the hosts for their unseasonable "nonstop negativity."

And again we present: "Ratings Equal Relevance." The never ending belief by cons that more watchers turns chicken s*** into chicken salad.

Ed Schultz, not Brian Williams as Regis so purposefully suggested, is the ONLY potential Edward R Murrow of NBC. Schultz's background in the northwest has given him the ability to buy American boots that keep his intellectual feats on American ground. Now that we lost Keith, Schultz is the only TV and radio anchor that understands and truly CARES about the relationship of labor unions, middle class and democracy.

As I've previously noted: The fact (STILL irrefutable, except by our wacky-pack wingnutters) remains that whether (or not) you 'like' the anchors at MSNBC, they and their staff DO research their stories BEFORE airing them, most unlike that oft-repeated bleat of "...fair and balanced news reporting..." that you hear from the pompous and seemingly ever-angry prevaricators at Cluster-Fox, who don't 'do' research (but, who do employ a wealth of, shall we say...'talent' in their 'body language analysts'...and Dennis Miller, former comedian and current O'Really sock-puppet. Round out that smorgasbord of 'experience' with the likes of Hammity, Bolling and A. Coulter, and, well...there you are - 'research', quantified. *eyeroll*).
Ed, Rachel, Lawrence and the other anchors at MSNBC will continue to point out the blatant hypocrisy found at Cluster-Fox, as well as the duplicity of those that align themselves with corrupt businesses and astroturf 'grassroots groups', and the Cluster-Foxers (and their ilk) will continue to garner the ridicule they oh-so richly deserve...

I think the big difference between Keith Olbermann and Ed Schultz (i.e. why one has become an icon of the left, and the other hasn't) is due to indignation vs. anger. Though it may seem a small difference, indignation plays well amongst democrats, whereas anger plays much better with republicans. Schultz just comes off as too angry, IMO, which would work if he were a right-wing radio show host, but not when his target audience is bi-coastal intellectuals.

And for those of you who will say I'm just knocking republicans, read the definitions first:

Anger - A strong feeling of displeasure aroused by a wrong.

Indignation - Strong displeasure at something considered unjust, offensive, insulting, or base; righteous anger.

See? I'm knocking you both.

I'll go ahead and just knock republican/teabaggers/conservative righty tighty jerks. Thank you. LOL. However, they do evoke very strong anger in me as well as indignation. They just make me sick to my stomach 99.9999999% of the time.
