We always liked the Ghost of Christmas Past best. Sure he was melancholic, and certainly spooky, but we see nothing wrong with a little nostalgia around the holidays.

So HuffPost Detroit scrounged up some memories of Detroit's own Christmases past. The Detroit Publishing company is responsible for these prints. From merry cats to steamboats fording the icy Detroit River.

And while this year's holiday is snowless and surprisingly mild, these Library of Congress archival images show there's always been plenty of snow for Santa to fly over on his way back to the North Pole.

Merry Christmas!
