NBA Forever Video: TNT Opens Basketball Season With Amazing Intro

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 12/25/11 04:12 PM ET   Updated: 12/25/11 10:50 PM ET

Just before the New York Knicks and Boston Celtics got the 2011-12 NBA season underway at Madison Square Garden, TNT unveiled a mesmerizing video mashup of past and present NBA greats dubbed "NBA Forever."

With the song "Live Forever" by Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors providing the soundtrack, the montage of modern and old-school players features Derrick Rose playing with Michael Jordan's Bulls, Dirk Nowitzki guarding Larry Bird and even LeBron James dunking on Julius Erving.

Personally, my favorite part is when the low-key Tim Duncan is chats it up with Bill Walton, but there are plenty of incredible what-if moments to choose from, including Derrick Rose's fist bump with MJ; Magic Johnson dishing to Kobe; Wilt Chamberlin blocking Dwight Howard; and Patrick Ewing chest bumping Amar'e Stoudemire.

Watch the video above and tell us what your favorite part was in the comment section!

Wow, it sure is easy to tell who's old on this feed. From the comments you'd think players used to ball in tuxedos before the 90's. No one will ever be as good as the players you watched when you were young and in awe.

The NBA today is lame and about as exciting as Polker on ESPN2 at 3:00 AM in the morning. The 80's marked the end of the last great era when basketball was still a game of skill and real shooting.
They could have stayed on strike and nobody would have cared.
02:58 AM on 12/27/2011
What's "Polker"? is that a mix of Polka and Poker, where you have to dance around with your opponents before placing bets? Sounds pretty exciting to me!

There is nothing special about the video or the song. A better montage could have been made from all the highlights of the NBA. Try it again and use some imagination.

I'm not a BBall fan but that vid was pretty cool!

That was goaltending by Chamberlain on Dwight. There will never be another Larry Bird , not a big leaper , not a quick runner , but the eye of an eagle and the nerves of steel, Oh yeah and the best shot of any player , EVER.

There will be plenty of Larry Birds, men who don't pay their child support.

MJ may be messing up in North Carolina now but his competitive spirit will always be in Chicago. His spirit lives on in a young man named Derrick Rose.

Go Bulls!

Rose is great but to me the new MJ is Wade. Wade is the only guy since Jordan to play the best D in the league, take over games when needed and make the entire team better because he is on the floor. Wade does not get the respect he deserves from the media.

Oh my god! I'm 50 years old, and familiar with all of those guys. The hair on the back of my neck stood up! I almost cried. Don't tell my wife.
11:27 AM on 12/26/2011
Ok...I shed a tear or or two myself. Don't tell my wife either.

You can hype it all you want but the NBA is a collection of uneducated overpaid hoodlums. The play toys of over entitled white guys. The league is sucks. I'm not going to watch a thing until the playoffs, at the earliest. Attend a game? A total waste of money.
10:54 AM on 12/26/2011
jealous! lol,,,,

I literally do not know a single person that watches the NBA. I almost creid when they ended their strike. ESPN will be unwatchable now. You can have 16 great games of NFL and Monday morning it's basketball, basketball, basketball. Nobody cares. I saw a poll where over 70% of sports fans didn't care if the league came back online.
12:40 PM on 12/26/2011
NBA dosent need you , go back to watching football fool.
10:22 AM on 12/26/2011
Back in the day when pro basketball was played by pros --- compared to today's street-ball played on the NBA courts and passed as professional basketball. Yes, different game. . . no comparison, no class. . .

I'm tired of Derek Rose.he is a nice Player, but he's not an "ELITE PLAYER", he is another nba appointed tv star......... He don't belong in that shot with Michael and Scotty..........
10:59 AM on 12/26/2011
Yea... He hasnt proven himself yet ... just a good player ,not elite. Vince Carter, Grant hill , Gilbert Arenas, ect all started out as potential "great players ....ended up just average good players. Derek Rose has not earned that "elite" player status because it too early and he has done anything yet.
12:22 PM on 12/26/2011
He's a top 3 point guard in the NBA. What are you talking about? Check the stats, he's amazing.
01:05 PM on 12/26/2011
he is no MJ.
