Christiane Amanpour

First Posted: 12/26/11 11:54 AM ET Updated: 12/27/11 11:11 AM ET

Christiane Amanpour signed off from her final broadcast of ABC's "This Week" on Sunday. Amanpour closed the broadcast with some final thoughts.

She thanked viewers for welcoming her into their homes each Sunday and spoke of her upcoming gig. "In the new year you can find me off on new adventures, covering global affairs, and challenges here at home in this struggling economy," Amanpour said.

Amanpour's departure from "This Week" was announced in mid-December. She will split her time between hosting prime time specials on ABC, and launching a new international affairs program on CNN International. Former "This Week" host George Stephanopoulos will return to ABC's Sunday morning show on January 8, 2012.

Amanpour was above kissing, Sunday morning television station hoping politicians a$$es. I empathized with her when she had to keep a lid on her patience while interviewing someone like Michelle Bachmann.

She did a good job, of trying, to introduce us to international news and commentary. This (stimulation) I will miss. Having George back, with the same old panel of pundits is like watching tired out reruns. I will look forward to watching Christiane on CNN.

Same thoughts here also. When I came back to the Sunday a.m. program and saw Stephanopoulos in her chair, I thought, the network couldn't take her real substance and internationalism and had to bring the "bland" back in.

She is such a great role model for girls - no simpering, no smirking, no beauty-queen manners - just straightforward, strong, honest and a lot of integrity. A beautiful and admirable woman!

I liked her a lot on This Week. She did an excellent job. George will be good for the next year of politics, then it would be good to see someone who can take on David Gregory. I dvr all the sunday morning network shows. smart tv.

Amanpour is going back to what she is best at telling us about the world? George is back where he belongs too on This week as host in what he really knows and is good at? Not as host on ABC Morning Show?

Why is Antonio Banderas signing off? From what? And why does he have on that wig?

That's a bummer. I really liked her tough as nails style. Stephanopolous? Yuck. He should do radio.

I used to be fine with Stephanopolous, but now that he's been doing that goofy GMA gig for a while it's tough to take him seriously.

She was basically a square in a round hole, it was so predicatable that this domestic venture was never going to work out for her....now she is free to get back to her globe-trotting ways again, which was always her true calling.

Christiane Amanpour should not have a problem finding work with Al Jazeera. Amanpour has carried water for a variety of terrorist organizations and anti-Israeli organizations and states for years. She is also a "blame America first-er". She should fit in well.

Straight out of the thinking points. Never actually seen anything she's done, eh?
Sure, sure ...

Too bad you have no link with reality, in fact Christine Amanpour was more accurate in knowing where Osama Bin Laden was than any one else in the news world, she is the most un biased and objective reporter in the free world. It is unfortunate that your personal biases do not allow the free thinking that she displays.

this woman is far too intelligent for a format that clearly wants her to soft-handle guests and give them free air time without awkward or embarrassing questions. she is absolute dynamite at tackling international affairs.

I'm not surprised, as her moderating has had many foibles that served her so well as a first-class Journalist, but made for a boring focus-bound TV Mag. For one thing, she doesn't listen well (or even pretend to) and second, she fails to catch the snafus her guests make, nor counter any of their "points." Okay, okay, I confess I'm happy to have George take over again from the TV wasteland he found himself all last year, so am admittedly biased against her "style" versus his. I'm getting tired (again) of the MTP charade as well, as their commitment to nonpartisan "panels" makes for taking turns at making talking points rather than meaningful dialogue per se.

Getting back to Amanpour, however, I look forward to seeing her in some of the old venues she's covered as well as some of the new ones she is taking on. Meanwhile, here comes George!

I do somewhat agree with your take on Amanpour during the Sunday morning show, but I usually took it to mean that she was actually bored with her guests and didn't suffer fools lightly, but had to. But she seemed to come from a different angle than the usual morning guys including Gregory on NBC who seems like such a lightweight. George taking over just seemed to confirm that the preferred style by the network was pleasant pablum.

I liked her on CNN but rarely watched her on ABC. I am sure George will do a great job. I wish them all well. We need people who will give us both sides of the picture...someone to stand up to Fox News. Believe me, sometimes David Gregory sends me reeling - especially when he allows the republican hacks to spew their anti Obama venom without challenge. At least Anderson Cooper and some of the others at CNN speak up to at least attempt to get at the truth. I think she will do the same.
Good luck to everyone converned.
