Al Sharpton Blasts Governor Scott Walker For 'Bogus Claims' (VIDEO)

Al Sharpton

First Posted: 12/28/11 01:02 PM ET Updated: 12/31/11 09:16 PM ET

Al Sharpton laid into Republican Governor Scott Walker of Wisconsin for, according to Sharpton, spewing 'bogus claims' on Fox News' morning show "Fox and Friends."

Wisconsin citizens have been gathering signatures in an effort to unseat the Republican governor. On Tuesday morning, Walker criticized Wisconsin's recall process for reportedly counting the signatures of false names, like Adolph Hitler and Mickey Mouse. Walker called the process whole process "pretty unusual."

According to Sharpton, Walker, who he referred to as "the right's favorite union-bashing governor," went on Fox News to "push" fraudulent claims.

"Let me clear something up, the process isn't unusual Governor," Sharpton said. "You just don't like it." Sharpton said that the signatures on the petition went through a review process and referenced a PolitiFact article that deemed the "counting false signatures" claim as "mostly-false."

"Walker thinks if he talks about fraud, we'll ignore the real story," Sharpton said. "the real story is more than 500,000 people have signed recall petitions. That's 94 percent of the total needed by mid-January. Governor Walker, did you think your bogus claims would make us forget voters want you out of office? Nice try."

I agree. Having read 8 pages of comments, I am amazed that the Repubs comments are focused on bad-mouthing Sharpton, rather than focusing on the issue of Walker's bogus claims. Apparently they cannot deny the message, so they are resorting to attacking the messanger.

Sharpton blasting anyone for "bogus claims" is like the pot calling the kettle black...Although he would like it to go away, Sharpton will never be able to live down his involvement in the Twana Brawley incident.

Walker IS going to b e recalled, so he's going to tell as many lies as possible between now and then about the process. Fortunately, MOST Americans don't believe a word either Walker or Faux Noise has to say.

I don't recall Walker having any problem3 with the Wisconsin recall procedures when he was elected to his last public office in a recall election in Milwaukee. Why is that, Scotty?
12:26 AM on 01/02/2012
There was no recall election in Milwaukee when Walker was elected. Get your facts straight, you propagandist.

The needs of the many out weigh, the needs of the few. The many? The Wisconsin constituents. The few? The Koch Brothers.

I laugh. The Republican/conservatives who are commenting on this argument continue to serve up their favorite dish: red herring. It doesn't change the simple fact that there are a lot of people who are fed up with Scott Walker and want him out of office. Like our current Ohio governor, John Kasich, Walker overreached and is getting his hand slapped. Now, I hope that the next step is a swift kick in the pants and a pink slip.

Strange that you don't appear to believe that Sharpton not only "over reached" with the Brawley incident, he was found liable to the police officers he slandered, and has yet to pay the judgement. A real class act that guy. Just goes to prove, once again, that if it weren't for double standards, liberals would have no standards at all.
07:32 PM on 12/31/2011
Thank you for proving my point. When you can't win the argument, change the subject.

Freudian slips: the only truth from the GOP
09:49 AM on 12/30/2011
These people calling Rev. Sharpton racist can't seem to cite any specifics to qualify him as racist. They're not even much criticizing him for what he's said about Scott Walker. This tells me two things:

1) Attacking the messenger and not the message with ad-hominem attacks, means there's something true in his message that hits close to home. Sans the benefit of truth to debunk that message there's something about what he's saying that cuts their soul so deeply, the only thing they can do it try to discredit him. Ironically, Dr. Martin Luther King faced this same tactic.

2) So many people who call Rev. Sharpton racist have nothing to tether that accusation to so that it has merit. This is the pot calling the kettle....well, you know, need I say it? When you constantly accuse somebody of something baseless, i.e. racism, but have no specific incident to substantiate that charge, the person lobbing that accusation is probably guilty of it themselves.

Someone even posted, "Whoever Al Sharpton is against, I'm for." Well, while I don't claim to be a spokesperson for Rev. Sharpton I don't think he'd disagree if I said he's anti-KKK, anti-terrorist, anti-police brutality and anti-poverty. That sounds rather immature to oppose everything a person stands for just to spite someone. All these things I've heard him preach against with my own ears, instead of jumping on the hate bandwagon.

Mr Risper to put Martin Luther King Jr and Al Sharpton as a comparison is the height of being naive. Come to NYC and learn
07:16 AM on 02/07/2012
I've been to NYC, nice place to visit, but I don't wanna be stopped and frisked by cops just because they feel like it. Nothing naive about comparing King and Sharpton because they both believe the same things. You just don't like Rev. Sharpton for whatever personal reasons.

Yes. she changed her name, finished high school, got a College degree from Howard University, and is productively working. She knows what she did and doesn't want to revisit it.

The only ones who wish to revisit it are the race baiting conservatives of today.
See anyone you know in that mirror? .. D'oh!

Sir I am a conservative and will match my credentials with yours anytime and I don't use Pseaudonyms to address issues/ By your own mouth you state she Knows what she did and she doesn't want to revisit It. That is not race baiting she knows her guilt and the issue is done with but it doesn't absolve her Mr Sharpton, the attorney for ruining innocent people by creating a lie so she would not be disceplined by her family for staying out late at night

DUUUH Mr Wespenn56 it has nothing to do with Ms Brawley its Mr Sharpton as a Race Hustler who saw fit to make money (and he did ) Im a NYer by accusing white law officials of racial discrimination against Tawana without checking out the facts impartially he teamed with Black attorneys who added fuel to the fire in which one of the attorneys was later disbarred from practicing law, Every person on that side made money. It was later brought out that Ms Brawley was out very late in the night and concocted a very serioud lie which ruined the lives of many of the accused Ms Brawley was scared to death that she was going to get the living hell beaten out of her by her family. Mr Sharpton was later sued after the courts exonerated all the accused. I am not defending the Gov as i dont know the full story my post are directed at Mr Sharpton in this situation and it wouldnt surprise me if he winds up in Wisc. I will say this he is a very ohony agitator.
04:29 AM on 12/30/2011
I'm glad that this is getting national media attention. Everybody is watching us Wisconsinites, so we had better be able to kick him out of office. Then, the Repubs all over the country will feel the bitter taste of a recall.

Well when you consider the last American governor to get recalled was Gray Davis (D) of California, and the reasons for his recall -the energy crisis that resulted in rolling blackouts thanks to Enron's manipulation of the energy markets- they'd find themselves up against it trying to support Walker publicly.
