Chavez: United States Could Cause Cancer

CARACAS, Venezuela -- Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is questioning the rash of cancer cases among Latin American leaders and asking if somehow the U.S. might have a way to induce the illness.

Chavez has long questioned whether the U.S. government could be plotting to oust him, but his latest remarks went far beyond any such theories.

The leftist leader referred to the cancer diagnosis of Argentine President Cristina Fernandez, and noted that he and the leaders of Brazil and Paraguay have also struggled with the illness recently.

Chavez calls it very strange. He says he isn't accusing the U.S. and doesn't have any proof. But he asks, in his words, "Would it be strange if they had developed a technology to induce cancer and no one knew it?"

Massive radiation all over the world especially from spent plutonuim which is the most dangerous substance in this world will cause cancer......Since Japan ....since the three melt throughs. Radiation is destroying the Oceans the food chain and the balance of life in this world.Humanity should understand we are in grave danger.

the u.s is a country that openly assasinates its own citizens without trial. it is a country that murders people with drones and with terrorists like seals and delta force. it murders recognized foreign leaders like saddam. ghadaffi, mubarek, bin laden, many leaders in central and south america etc...so is it so far fetched that they would poison someone?

Considering the history of US involvement in South America, repeatedly overthrowing legitimately elected governments, greedily exploiting and expatriating resources, extensive environmental devastation by oil companies and much more to be ashamed of, it's no wonder this thought would occur to someone like Chavez. I don't blame him for thinking it. I hope it's not true.

I don't know why the mystique. Various chemicals are known to cause cancer, as is radiation. The "technology" to induce cancer has been here a long time. Whether or not anybody is using it the way he says is another question, but its not some miracle tech.

I don't think the Brits were too popular in Zimbabwe Rhodesia. Maybe Zimbabwe had reasons for being suspicious of Brits. However, I doubt that more than one person said that about the drought and it was probably in jest. Chavez has excellent powers of deduction.
