Kim Kardashian, Janet Jackson, Given PETA 'Celebrity Grinch Awards'

It's not a Grammy or an Oscar, but Janet Jackson and Kim Kardashian are receiving a special award this year. For the first time, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has handed out their "Celebrity Grinch Awards," with Kardashian and Jackson named as the first recipients.

Jackson was criticized for collaborating with Blackglama, a brand which advertises garments made from the "highest quality mink in the world," the Telegraph's fashion blog reports.

In their blog post announcing the "Grinch" award winners, PETA poked fun at more than just her love of fur:

"When Janet Jackson had her infamous "wardrobe malfunction" during the Super Bowl, at least the flesh that popped into view was her own--unlike the stolen animal skins that she drapes herself with, which are as dead as her taste in fashion (not to mention her career). Ms. Jackson, you're just plain nasty."

Kardashian was also singled out for her love of fur, and PETA also took the opportunity to criticize her recent nuptials.

"Some have speculated that Kim Kardashian's wedding to NBA forward Kris Humphries was fake. Too bad the socialite princess doesn't have the same enthusiasm for faking her fur. Unlike her sweet sister Khloe, who starred in her own PETA anti-fur ad, Kim just can't seem to divorce herself from fur and say 'I do' to a kind and kompassionate wardrobe."

This isn't the fist time the Kardashian clan member has been slammed by the animal rights organization for fashion choices.

Recently, PETA mounted a billboard in Beverly Hills with a question for the star: "KIM: These babies miss their mother. Is she on your back?"

"Kim knows that animals on fur farms are beaten, electrocuted, and often skinned alive," PETA Senior Vice President Lisa Lange wrote in a statement on their website. "We've explained it to her, and she's watched a video expose that was filmed inside fur farms. When Kim is ready to put an end to her relationship with fur, PETA will be happy to take her discards and donate them to the homeless."

I have been a supporter of World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and the Humane Society but I will never agree to PETA. I think PETA is for people who are jealous of those wearing fur. I say to PETA members: what difference does it make if someone wears leather or fur when both are animal skin? Some people can't wear vinyl or plastic soled shoes because it doesn't allow the skin on their feet to breath which causes fungus of the feet; leather soled shoes allows the human skin on the feet to be able to breath to stay healthy. I lived in Wisconsin all my life where the weather gets around 20 or 30 degrees below zero Fahrenheit and I have worn a variety of jackets and coats. The only kind of outerwear that keeps me warm in the cold outdoors is leather and suede, no other kind of fabrics come close to keeping me warm in winter.

I suggest you PETA members try living in sub zero weather for over 50 years and see which types of outerwear keeps you the warmest without skin problems before you go making any accusations and mockery about us people who need to wear leather, fur or suede to keep from freezing to death.

PETA is a sad organization. Are they animal rights activists or a gossip blog? They need to get their priorities straight and stop dissing celebrities like Janet who is known for her humanitarian work. As for an entire billboard just to take a dig at Kim Kardashian, how ridiculous.Use the money for something related to protecting animal rights instead. I'm an animal lover myself and I feel embarassed to be connected to PETA.They need to take a leaf from more valid organisations like GLAAD who are able to give valid criticism without taking away other people's dignity.Apologies to Janet and Kim.Happy new year.

Janet and Kim are very sad people, and far away from any kind of likable role-models, unless you want to become self absorbed and greedy.
PETA is a strong and energetic world wide organization, with many hardworking, unselfish, and likable members.
In an age with plenty of beautiful, warm, light and easily maintained materials, there is NO reason to be dressed in cadaver; there is no reason to kill animals for their "skin" or "hair".
The well being of an animal is of far more value and importance to me than a fur dressed Janet/Kim.
I agree with PETA, and I am thankful for all the work they do. I just donated $100 for 2011 to them. I am still working on becoming a vegetarian (and cutting down on sugar) - almost there.

Donate to your local animal shelter where the money will ALL be used for animals well being.

Hope you also invested in a nutrition course to learn how to get all the right nutrients into your meals. I meet people who don't learn what is missing and needs to be filled in to make a complete meal. Also, a few who were tired or no energy and even a few truly stupid ones who say they will get sick eating meat when they haven't eaten any in months. Learn about digestive enzymes and lack of them when you choose to eliminate specific foods.

'Son of Liberty' is an ironic moniker for someone who cares only for the freedom of some beings. PETA works tirelessly to liberate feeling, thinking animals from horrifying conditions. Become a vegan, and then you can proudly wear the name 'Son of Liberty.'

How different is that YOU should become a Muslim or Catholic? No other choices are acceptable as they would be "horrifying." PETA works tirelessly at suing people to rid the world of animals to force people to being vegan/vegetarian by whatever means.

"Son of Liberty" has the right moniker, it is you who try to demand people bow to your own way. This country was not founded on being vegetarian or vegan, but freedom of rights.
