BETHESDA, Md. -- Authorities say a collision between a public transit bus and a pickup truck just outside the nation's capital has killed one person and injured nearly a dozen.

Montgomery County fire and rescue spokesman Capt. Oscar Garcia says 11 people were evaluated after the Wednesday afternoon crash. He says eight people will be taken to the hospital with various injuries. The pickup truck driver died.

The accident has shut down a stretch of Rockville Pike in Bethesda, Md., in both directions during the busy evening rush hour. Police were reconstructing the collision.

Garcia says the drivers of the bus and pickup truck had to be extricated from their vehicles.

Metro spokesman Dan Stessel says the bus was heading to the Lake Forest Mall in Gaithersburg.

A tragedy that could have been much worst, since multiple vehicles were involved and a bus full of people going to the mall, my prayers to the family of the victim.

I alway find it interesting how if this was reported to have happened in China, there would be a 100 or more post about how this could only happen in a shoddy run communist country with crappy vehicles or some thing like that. But happens here, and its a completely different story. How Myopic we are in the USof A..

Well, usually in less developed countries the accidents we hear about are connected to some sort of human created fraud, and we tsk tsk as we read them and move on. If the infrastructure is less developed, the likelihood of damaging accidents increases. Otherwise we chalk it up to human error.
