Dog Plays With Beached Shark After It Was Attacked By Whales (VIDEO)

Some sort of bravery-boosting serum must have found its way into the world's dog food supply.

First one daring dog decided he'd had enough of a shark's shallow water tyranny and, much to the shock of Australian passers-by, bit the shark while swimming by it.

Now, another pup looks to have conquered the same fear as he approached a beached great white shark and played with it until it slithered back into the ocean, the BBC reports.

The altercation occurred on Dec. 26 at Blue Cliffs Beach in Tuatapere, New Zealand.

According to a report by the Daily Mail, onlookers said the shark was forced onto the beach by a herd of attacking whales. While the species of whale was not clear, it is believed they could have been orcas, also known as "killer whales," which are known to feed on sea lions, seals, sharks and other large fish.

Peter Robertson told the Daily Mail his dog, Flea, was just curious about the action.

"It would appear the whales were fighting the sharks ... the sharks were coming ashore because they didn't want to be in the water," Robertson told the paper.

WATCH the video below and be sure to check out the Daily Mail's video, as well.

Probably wanted to bring it home. My dog found a huge dead fish on the beach once and it all my strength to take it from him. Then we both had soak in perfume for three days.

Sorry, this is off topic, but does everyone here watch a minute commercial before watching a minutes worth of video news? It's happening to me -- is it a glitch?

Yes the video is a hook to get you to watch the commercial.

If this happens again (1 min. commercial for a 1 min. video), then the powers that be are taking advantage of the readers. They'll lose in the long run. No one has the time for it. I've seen companies shoot themselves in the foot before and this is the quickest way to guarantee that the Huff will lose "customers" fast. I hope someone forwards all of these complaints to management.

thats a bull shark. i know labeling it a great white is more dramatic, but how bout some details
03:07 PM on 12/30/2011
Um, that is not a Great White. Most likely a Cow Shark, based on a quick hunt through shark species charts. Single dorsal and elongated top Caudal fin (tail)

I only point this out because there are so many people that over-dramatize news and proclaim "OMG! That's a Great White Shark!!"

Seems like a clear sign of an ecosystem that is badly disrupted and out of balance.

Cool 48 second video... I may have recommended it to some of my friends if it had not been delayed by a 60 second ad.

Follow the Daily Mail link, no ad. Agreed, though: a 60-second ad is *ridiculous!*

Let's get to the important question here. Is this more solid proof of man-caused global warming?

Huff Po! Why haven't you done the Daily Mail story about the horrible abuse found in the Butterball turkey facility in NC?

Yes, I am obsessed. I hate all of the ads on this site and everywhere else. Like I will buy the cr@p of companies that force their ads on me. Subvert this paradigm!

I just looked at the source code for this page and found the link to the ad-free video.

THE VIDEO WITHOUT ADS: http://bcove.me/nivje0um

The javascript around the video here includes the bit that pulls in the ad. Does HP HAVE to include the ad, or is that something they could have left out just as I did above?

HP: Is it really necessary to force us to watch ads for every stinking video? Are you not making enough and slowing down the servers with all of the other ad crap on this site? Reall, surely you can cut a deal with content providers to use videos without ads.
