Michigan tax credits for certain charitable gifts expire Saturday, and many food banks, universities and other eligible nonprofits are urging people to give now, before the credits are gone.

The 50% tax credits -- up to $200 for a couple giving $400 -- end this week, along with a raft of personal and corporate tax credits that cost the state hundreds of millions of dollars a year.
