From Dearly Departed Characters To Canceled Shows, 12 TV Things We'll Miss In 2012 (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 12/29/2011 2:38 pm   Updated: 12/29/2011 2:50 pm

There are so many great TV things to be excited about in 2012, but we also need to take a moment to honor the shows and characters that will not be with us in the New Year.

From big character deaths (spoiler alert: you've been warned) to canceled shows we hate saying goodbye to, and even a certain set of sextuplets that grew up on the small screen, this is our salute to TV's dearly departed of 2011.

But don't look at this as the saddest of our year-end lists. Sure, for most of these, it's the end of the road, but for others (ahem, "Community") it's a reminder to keep rallying for a return. Take a look at our 12 picks, and tell us what you'll miss most from the small screen in 2012 in the comments.

Those Dirty Soaps ("All My Children" & "One Life to Live")

Pine Valley and Llanview have been in our lives for nearly half a century. A world without Erica Kane being held at gunpoint by her lookalike is something we don't like to imagine. The ABC soaps's sign-offs come in a blaze of real-life drama as their plans to move online crumbled in a very public arena. Talk about a dramatic exit fitting for the likes of Erica and Viki Lord. At least we have a couple weeks left of "One Life to Live." The final episode airs on the unlucky Fri., Jan. 13.

Friday Night Lights is one of the best shows I've ever watched. Completely involving. Why it wasn't a bigger hit is something I will never understand.

Groucho Marx said "TV is very educational - when my wife turns it on, I go find a book to read." I have seen only Hannah Montana from this list of the demised, and that is because there is an 8 yr old in the house. I watch about 10 hours a week, and I am a better person for it.

After cancelling Men of a Certain Age, when The Closer ends I won't be watching TNT.

I'm living in a world where a mediocre; and very predictable, show like Whitney survives the cut, while a quirky, creative show like Community is being tampered with. Shades of Arrested Development.

Ted Danson was awesome on Bored to Death. He would speak in this hypnotizing voice and of course, say the craziest things. It was a funky little show that was very funny and odd. Too bad it was canceled.

Shelving "Community" was a big mistake. But then insisting it be on at 8pm rather than a more friendly timeslot was where that mistake began. NBC isn't as smart as they once were.

"Men Of A Certain Age" was must-see television for our family and friends. Intelligent, funny, warm and relevant to baby boomers. The great acting made every situation feel so real. Networks and cable stations would do well to recognize that we watch television and can afford the products that are peddled interminably by their sponsors.

Great show. Too bad they were more worried about 'age demographics' than letting an audience develop for a quality show. I'm sick of crap reality shows and stupid sitcoms aimed at 19 yr olds. People over 45 buy lots of stuff. too.

YES! no more glee or hannah montana! yayayayay!

Who's Jimmy "Darmondy"?

I still can't believe the season finale to "Boardwalk Empire." I did not see that coming.

"All My Children" was like comfort food for the senses- I started watching it with the very first show- missed a few years while working daytime until the advent of the VCR. It may sound silly to some, but those folks became my friends- I'll really miss Tad!

Not silly at all. I watched it since I was a little girl and losing it was like losing an old friend. Probably the only show on the list that I'll really miss.

Thanks Poozy! Back in the mid-eighties my daughter was living in Germany. I used to write and tell her all the happenings in Pine Valley. She appreciated it, told me that it was certainly more interesting than what happened in our family!! (That's a good thing)

I watched this show once, thought it was pretty bad. But then, "The Simpsons" was rated in the top ten forever, and I didn't like that one either.

I'll miss Margo Martindale as the hillbillie crime family matriarch in Justified. She was
frightening and endearing at the same time.

Agree!! One of the few sitcoms with an original premise coupled with good actors delivering funny lines. Of course it had to be cancelled -- and the crap remains!! The only thing good about Whitney is it's scripted (badly) and not a reality show.

i just can't stand Whitney Cummings, i used to tough... but that sitcom , Geezzz!!! needs to be put out forever.
