As one who studied ballet as a young woman, and now practices yoga as a middle-aged one, I would advise against comparing the two. Ballet is incomparable for developing grace and agility, but it also exerts considerable stress on the joints and few ballet dancers escape without occasional injury. Yoga is non-impact. If a teacher is trying to force an untrained student into difficult positions, try a different class.
