Best Chicago Photos Of 2011 (PHOTOS)

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 12/30/11 02:43 PM ET Updated: 01/06/12 12:00 PM ET

Chicago saw many changes in 2011. After 22 years, we saw Mayor Richard M. Daley hand over City Hall to Rahm Emanuel. Former Governor Rod Blagojevich was finally sentenced after two trials that felt too long for most of us. A blizzard blanketed the city with more than 20 inches of snow and a summer storm soaked Grant Park during Lollapalooza, leaving it a muddy mess for weeks.

We asked HuffPost Chicago readers to submit their favorite photos of the year, and went back to find some of our favorites from the stories we were following in 2011. Check out our picks for the best photos of the year below, and be sure to vote for your favorite. In defense of Chicago men and women, and boys and girls, I never have seen picture in Chicago of two grown men slobbering on each other in public. That is a private matter and doesn't belong in the year in pictures of Chicago. Most of the pictures should show the homeless and down and out, the boarded up homes and the boarded up businesses and the helpless standing in long, deathly silent lines appealing their property tax increases and so on. The pictures shown are through special lens.

Unfortunately, the poor, and people who are viewed as insignificant in this country, have never been "glamorous."

The poor are "insignificant" in this country. As are various people of color.

I'm not quite sure what this picture is supposed to mean?

I do agree that kids are not commodities and we should encourage them not to attend union run schools.

It was a tough year for Chicago and ILL-ANNOY. Hammered by a 66% tax increase on personal income taxes and a 47% increase on business taxes, more people and businesses have fled the state.

In fact, the death spiral for Chicago and ILL-ANNOY is getting started. Welcome to New Michigan. Now if only the state can elect Jenny Granholm they could duplicate Michigan's failure.
