New Year's Day 2012: What Stores Will Be Open?

What Will Be Closed On New Years Day?

New Year's Day is recognized as an official U.S. holiday and will be celebrated on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012 this year. While the majority of mainstream stores and malls will remain open, street cleaning, garbage, and recycling pick up will be paused until after Monday.

Although most national store chains will be open, it's a good idea to call or check your local store's website. Additionally, many local news organizations publish lists of closings in their areas.

An example of these local listings is a post by the Brandon Sun in Manitoba, Canada.

Another good example is a post by the Palm Beach Post News.
