Located in western Maryland's panhandle snow belt, it's often the first ski resort in the area to open. It's a four-season destination, but the resort is especially appealing to skiers, snowboarders and snowshoers. With trails for all skill levels and a variety of amenities, Wisp Resort has something for everyone during ski season. Travelers can fly into Pittsburgh's airport, about two hours away, or into one of the airports in Washington, D.C., or Baltimore, both of which are less than three hours away.

Wisp Resort hosts the annual
event, which features free ski and snowboard lessons, giveaways and music. Wisp also participates in the NASTAR program, with a variety of races for all ages throughout the season. Single NASTAR passes cost $75, and family passes cost $150. Most of the NASTAR events are open to beginner and expert skiers alike.
