With the new year fast approaching, Euro RSCG Worldwide, a marketing communications agency, recently launched its largest ever trend-tome, giving us a sneak peek of the shifts it anticipates in the new year.

As the Post 50 demographic is one of the most powerful driving forces prompting a change in both media preferences and marketing, it's not surprise that this same group made multiple cameos in RSCG's list of trends.

We caught up with Marian Salzman, CEO of Euro RSCG Worldwide PR, North America, and one of the world's leading trendspotters, to get her in-depth take on the 2012 trends affecting Post 50s in the coming year. Here are her top five predictions for the demographic. If you don't see it here, tell us what you think will be the biggest trend for Post 50s.

Prediction: More empty nests are full once again as recent college grads and other young adults who can't find jobs look for Mom and Dad to come to the rescue. Likewise, senior citizens reluctant to retreat to a rocking chair at the senior center, or lacking financial resources, will move in with their grown children.

In 1997, Salzman predicted that the five-generation household would become the norm. In the coming year, Salzman sees a bustling household for what she calls, " 'The Club Sandwich Generation': just 'Sandwich' is too modest." In terms of design trends, "the kitchen becomes a multipurpose room," as elderly parents and grandparents are living with individuals in their early 50s who have teens of their own and college kids boomeranging back home.
