Welcome to 2012. What are you going to do to make this year your best yet? And no, we're not talking about unrealistic (yet well-intentioned) promises to yourself such as going to the gym every single day or swearing off your favorite food or calling your mom every single day.

The thing with new year's resolutions is that they're often simply unrealistic. With that in mind, we've put together 11 easy new year's resolutions you can actually stick to. They don't cost anything and require minimal effort -- but could have a big, positive impact on your life this year.

Read through and consider adopting a few (if not all!) of them. If you can come up with any other low-barrier-to-entry new year's resolutions, start a conversation in the comments.

Going to the gym every day is a common new year's resolution, but while gym membership enrollments rise in January, many of them are never used. Be realistic about your exercise goals. Why not try incorporating more physical activity into your every day? For example: Take the stairs instead of the elevator and walk or bike instead of driving whenever possible.

I've never been able to keep new year's resolutions, so this year I'm resolving to gain 15 pounds.

Although New Years Resolutions are a tradition, setting goals all year round for personal achievement is a great way to boost self-confidence and perhaps even make an impact on the world around us.

www.MOTEEVATE.com is a social network where users create a profile based around personal goals. Join a community of experts with different interests and fields, invite your friends to moteevate and be moteevated, and collaborate with fellow moteevators to make a change.

These are delightful resolutions. So simple yet most of the time overlooked. I'll definitely be adding some of these to my list this year. http://alan-heidigreen.blogspot.com/

These are great and are some simple lifestyle changes that should be easily attainable! I really need to work on being "better than punctual" because I got into a really bad habit of being late everywhere all of the time...I'll definitely be using this list of tips on how to stay on track > http://www.skinnyscoop.com/list/larissa/best-ideas-tips-for-your-2012-resolutions

I like that these resolutions are all small and manageable, but they grow to have a big impact.

I am the editor of an app review website, The Recapp, and we recently wrote an article on the four best apps you can use to keep your New Year's resolutions (whether it involves dieting, finances or smoking) going strong. I'd love for anyone to stop by and check them out here:

I think the best way to make sure you stick to your resolutions, regardless of what they are, is to break them down into smaller steps you can take daily or weekly that will allow you to achieve the bigger goal. I also like writing these steps and my resolutions down, makes them a little more concrete. Get your new 2012 calendars here! www.gorillaofficesupplies.com/discount-calendars-planners.aspx

They have great discounts, and throughout the year too, not just for new years. You can order everything easily online. Check out some of their other products, one stop shop :)

I like the 'turn off the internet at night' resolution - I've decided to do something similar. I want to unplug in the evenings and read instead. I didn't read much this year, and it's something I used to do almost obsessively. I got a Kindle recently, so the act of getting back into reading will certainly be natural. I've started making a 'wish list' of books to read, and recently begun reading 'Israela' by Batya Casper (http://www.israelathebook.com). It's about a family of sisters in Israel and gives the reader a loo inside the daily lives of Israelis, something I haven't learned about before. It serves a dual purpose: entertainment in the form of a good novel and education about a country in the news every day. I love it so far!

It's quite easy to stick to your resolutions, just make them the opposite of your actual goal:
I will smoke more
I will drink more
I will date more fat chicks
