The Queen of Pop once turned down the opportunity to portray the leading lady of Camelot.
According to an upcoming memoir by RoseMarie Terenzio, former friend and publicist of the late John F. Kennedy Jr., the political scion and publisher of George Magazine wanted Madonna to pose as his mother, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, on the cover of the summer of 1996's Women in Politics issue.
"I think we should dress Madonna up as my mother," Terenzio remembers Kennedy saying in "Fairy Tale Interrupted" (via the NY Post). "Wouldn't that be a riot?"
Kennedy continued with the suggestion despite Terenzio's protests, proposing that they "have her in a pillbox hat, sitting on a stack of books."
Beyond using a controversial pop icon to play a beloved First Lady, the move would have created a "media sh*tstorm," Terenzio warned, because of Kennedy and Madonna's rumored past fling. In 2007, a biography of Kennedy included a story from one of his college friends that detailed a kinky fling the pair allegedly had in Chicago in 1988.
Luckily for Terenzio, Madonna declined the invitation, though seemingly not for concern over media reaction.
"Dear Johnny Boy," she wrote, "Thanks for asking me to be your mother but I could never do her justice. My eyebrows aren't thick enough, for one. When you want me to portray Eva Braun or Pamela Harriman, I might say yes! Hope you're well. Love, Madonna"
Harriman was a British socialite who married a former New York Governor and railroad magnate, and before her death in 1997, was a prominent fundraiser for the Democratic Party.
Eventually, Drew Barrymore covered that issue of George, which wasn't without its own controversy; she portrayed Marilyn Monroe who, of course, is famous for allegedly having a fling with President John F. Kennedy.
