Oprah's Next Chapter: Show Debuts With Steven Tyler Interview (VIDEO)

Oprah Winfrey

First Posted: 01/ 2/2012 10:08 am Updated: 03/ 3/2012 4:12 am

Oprah kicked off 2012 with the launch of her new primetime show, "Oprah's Next Chapter." The two-hour special premiered Sunday night on OWN, and featured an extensive interview with Aerosmith's Steven Tyler at his home in New Hampshire.

Tyler sat down with Oprah to talk about love, regret, sex, lead singer syndrome, and more. Oprah asked Tyler if he was "a good person to be married to," and if he was "irresponsible." Tyler admitted that he "abandoned" his first wife and daughter, Mia, to go on tour. "My heart is still broken that I did that," Tyler said of leaving his first wife and daughter.

Tyler also gave Oprah a tour of his New Hampshire home on Lake Sunapee. The two ventured out into the woods, which Tyler called his "sacred place." They observed "the stillness," and raved about the beauty found in the middle of the woods. "This is beauty to me," Oprah said as she felt a moss-covered rock.

With "Oprah's Next Chapter," the queen of daytime brings viewers into the homes of public figures and private families. Upcoming shows, which will only be an hour long, include Oprah sitting down with a Hasidic Jewish family who has never watched television, having a sleepover with the Food Network's Paula Deen, and touring Skywalker Ranch with George Lucas.

The show is Oprah's second on The Oprah Winfrey Network. Oprah took over as CEO in July 2011, and her first show "Oprah's Lifeclass" premiered in October.

Watch two videos from "Oprah's Next Chapter" below. The first video, which features Tyler talking about sex and regret, includes a quick exchange about orgasms. In the second video, the two venture into the woods.

Steven Tyler Talks Love, Sex and Regret

Steven Tyler calls his four children—Liv, Mia, Chelsea and Taj—the loves of his life, but he admits he wasn't always the best father to them...or the best husband to his two ex-wives. Find out how drugs affected his relationships and why a piece of his heart is still broken.

Steven Tyler's Sacred Place

He's a rock legend, an American Idol judge and an inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. But at his core, Aerosmith's Steven Tyler is a nature boy. Watch as Steven brings Oprah to the woods where he says he first found his spirituality.

What's with the hoax about a huge upcoming Aerosmith Concert to raise money for American Student Loan debtors?

...Just been reading some of comments on here and can't help thinking 'Our civilization is suppose to make it on the account of these people?'. Global warming may just be the built in safety valve.

She needed herself to bring up her channel rather than some other good programming. This may make her work more.

I grew up in Boston and still live here. As a high school kid, I grew up idolizing Aerosmith and used to go to The Ratt and Bradeis and Tufts to see their shows. Steve would be rugged out and as kids we were too. After seeing this interview, I would consider it an honor to have Stephen Tyler come to my home for dinner and discuss the changes that life takes everyone through. Thank you Opra for doing this interview.

The shows on her network are so boring. Reality shows about has-been actors and singers from 20 years ago are great cures for insomnia. I love Mystery Diagnosis but 6 hours of reruns of it every day are too much even for me. No wonder it gets lousy ratings.

I hope next time there will not be any exposed mangled feet taking center stage. At the same time, now I want to see Mick Jagger's feet.

My wife tuned in, and I in turn watched the interview. It was good. Kind of like an updated Barbara Walters interview.

If you don't like it, don't watch.

Gaud, I thought we were through with her after her year-long farewell tour! Just go, please. 25 years is enough.
01:33 PM on 01/03/2012
She did go. She left mainstream broadcast TV and is now only on her personal cable channel. I happen to love the woman and seek her channel out.

Oprah is no longer a woman of the 'people'. She is a spokesperson for the liberals. She jumped the shark when she made verbal love to Barack Obama.
In case you Oprah-worshippers have missed it- lety me point out:
Steven Tyler- Liberal. Paula Dean- Liberal. George Lucas- Liberal. Tyler Perry- Liberal. Go Google ALL of her upcoming guests for her "next chapter" and you will see what she's all about. Like many of you, I was a big Oprah fan for years, but once she came out of her liberal closet she went from being a mainstream tv personality to an alternative spokesperson for the DNC.
And now, she and her staff are scratching their heads wondering why her liberal network isn't a hit???
Oprah, you are so deep in your self-talk, you have convinced yourself of something thats not true. America is NOT interested in the things you are, not anymore. Reel yourself back in, fire some of your 'yes-men' and find yourself someone honest.
Perhaps this newest show should be re-titled as; Oprahs Next Chapter: The Hidden Agenda Revealed".

Liberal = Thinking Human Being

Seems like a plus to me!

Republicans never change their tune, it's always the same old, same old. Try for a change to have an original thought.
11:37 PM on 01/03/2012
That is one of the most ignorant comments ever posted here. Libs are no more thinking human beings than conservatives. Such a typical, thoughtless, ignorant statement from an uneducated individual. The point of my comment was not to attack but to simply point out WHY OWN is failing miserably and will likely not exist 6 months from now. My points were clear, accurate and remain undisputed.
Leave it to a democrat to shoot the messenger.

She is entitle to whomever she chooses to support politically or otherwise. Don't watch!

Carol, you missed the point and yet reinforced it at the same time. I was not suggesting she not have an opinion politically. Clearly she does. And your direction to me to not watch is precisely what I have was pointing out. I'm NOT watching and neither is the majority of Americans...who happen to be CONSERVATIVES.
Don't believe me, watch what happens in November when your beloved Barack is sent back to Chicago with his hat in his hands.
Maybe what OWN needs now is some 'hope and change', LOL!!!!

25 years of her was quite enough!

Don't watch.

No one is!!!!
12:28 PM on 01/05/2012
The point is she's had her day - most people (center right = aprox. 40%-80% of Americans) are simply not interested in her anymore. When she shoved Obama down uninformed "Oprah lovers" throats, I changed the channel & never looked back. I cannot stomach her anymore & I, too, used to be a BIG fan. She does have the right to support & campaign for any political candidate she chooses - and I, along with the majority of Americans, have the right to choose to bring her network to its knees because we don't like or agree with her liberal views. Besides, wasn't it one of Obama's illegal czars that said some people would have to get out of the way so that other people could succeed? I personally think it's time for her to get out of the way. Or did that just apply to successful WHITE people??

I'm excited about the episode where she travels all the way to India. India is a fascinating country and Oprah does the best interviews. Can't wait.

Agree!

I much prefer Oprah when she is addressing cultural/current issues than when she is interviewing other famous people. I think she has a lot to offer and I look forward when she moves the lens away from other millionaires.

Oprah always does interesting interviews....good to see she's getting back to that.
09:33 AM on 01/03/2012
And I love that there's no studio audience. All the clapping, laughing and cheering that the studio audience would bring detracted from the actual substance of the interview. I loved her old show but this show is much more in depth and feels like a brand new start.

So many of you commenting about Oprah working and don't know what you are talking about. Oprah didn't retire, nor did she ever say she was. She just ended her daytime talk show. She had no intentions of not working.
09:31 AM on 01/03/2012
Exactly. She ended the Oprah Winfrey show and seems to have retired from broadcast television. Now she is on her OWN private cable channel.
12:38 PM on 01/05/2012
Yep, and I for one am glad to see her interviewing again! Have to admit the Own channel was boring until she has returned. jmo
