Barbie Trashes Her Dreamhouse By Artist Carrie M. Becker (PHOTOS)

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 01/03/12 06:04 PM ET Updated: 01/03/12 06:05 PM ET

When Mattel first unveiled Barbie's Dreamhouse in 1960, turning the pristine mansion into a hoarder's paradise probably wasn't what they had in mind.

But with Barbie's endless wardrobe and accessories thanks to her numerous career changes, it's no surprise that the blonde bombshell struggles with clutter.

Using 1/6 scale miniatures, notes Jezebel, artist Carrie M. Becker's handmade artwork marries the doll's overconsumption lifestyle with a hoarder's reality.

In the bizarre photo series entitled, 'Barbie Trashes Her Dreamhouse', the images are so detailed, tiny and incredibly disgusting, they could pass for ruined human sized rooms, adds Babble.

Not surprisingly the artist told the Huffington Post she was inspired by the hit series 'Hoarders' and 'How Clean Is Your House?'.

But the purpose of Becker's creation is to serve as a mirror, not a judgement.

"For me, this series is about creating a small, but perfect world where the viewer cannot distinguish between what is reality and what is fiction," says Becker.

This isn't the first time Barbie's unsustainable lifestyle has been dragged into the spotlight. Last year, architect students were invited to compete in a Mattel competition to design the most environmentally friendly dreamhouse for the famed doll.

Whoever did this should have visited a real hoarder first. Some problems:

The one free chair with the mostly cleared path. Because even hoarders have to sit sometimes.

A portion of the bed free. Toilet works, but there's barely room to sit down.

The small trails through the house with stuff precariously stacked all around them.

The sheetrock peeling off the walls from moisture trapped by stuff piled up against it.

Of course there's the stench. Mostly rotting stuff combined with insane mold levels that would give even a normal healthy person an asthma attack.

Cluttered, but too clean and tidy.

That said, hoarding is a serious disease. I hope people that have it get the help they need.

Any thoughts that Hoarding is a disease? All your comments are so delightfully flippant and vapid. You'd all probably enjoy a slideshow of Homeless Barbie? Schizophrenic Barbie? How 'bout Ovarian Cancer Barbie with a bunch of pills and advance directives and crap lying around?
The only thing worse than the current art scene? Its audience.

Elin Nordegren, Tiger Woods' former wife, completely smashed and trashed their $12 million mansion in Florida. Sound rahter Barbie-like.

This is ART?!?! I'll invite you over after my 9 year-old has been home from school for a couple of hours! Criminy... how stupid do you have to be to call a pile of garbage art?
10:24 PM on 01/05/2012
I don't know that I'd call it art either. The point is it's a miniature replica and looks VERY real. I'd just call it cool!

This looks exactly like my sister's house in NJ! And she did the same to our Mother's house, too. What a coincidence, she's named Barbara, too! Maybe it's genetic to most Barbies. . .

That is AWESOME. Just needs a couple of cats w/newborn kittens in the closet.

Don't forget the five dead cats buried under several different layers of garbage.

And the miniature roaches and used insulin syringes (I watched an episode the other night that actually nauseated me).

As many careers Barbie has had over the years.. it doesn't surprise me she's a hoarder.

Wow! I especially liked the photo of Sean Cassidy on the kitchen wall...lol. It looks suspiciously like the heart-shaped necklace/bracelet set that resides in my *own* jewelry box (yes, I kept it...)!
